That may be true for some. That's what my dad did, and going w/ cheaper tools didn't always work out. I go the route of buying the best that I can afford, and hopefully that's the last time that I need to buy that tool.

I have a Ryobi circular saw and I have no gripes about it. Now I'm invested in the Ridgid line and it's not very expensive with the hacks and DTO and you get a better tool and better warranty than Ryobi. That's how I justified the extra cost over Ryobi. My next circular saw will be Ridgid.
If I was a contractor, I'd go Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc.
Ridgid is definitely prosumer level, below Milwaukee. Ridgid is not the best nor should you pay like it.

I have the new 6 1/2" circ saw and it works great. It is also on sale with 4ah Max bat and charger for $139. The 4ah Max bat alone costs more than $100.

This saw has been $99 at Home Depot at least since May of this year. I got it for about $75 shipped (when it was last available for shipping) from Direct Tools Outlet back in May. I haven't used it much but it can cleanly cut through 1" MDF with the included blade with no difficulty whatsoever.

Its an ok saw. pretty heavy. For most home use the smaller 6" blade would be better.

Also coming from other brands, the side of the blade is odd compared to something like the dewalt, if you're right handed.

Most brands, including DeWalt, offer blade right and blade left versions of circular saws, for which their are advantages and disadvantages for both right or left handed people. There is no "right" answer and which to choose ultimately comes down to personal preference.

I never said there was a right answer, just warning some that these are not all identical when switching between brands.

Agreed. Low budget tools are just that...eventual landfill material. Buy the best quality you can afford === no loss of sleep.

Friendly reminder...afaik...Ridge come with a lifetime guarantee. Also, maybe I'm not 100%, they're made in the USA if that matters to you.

If you are a homeowner no need for high quality circular saw for a couple of times a year use. I bought harbor freight circular saw for $30 cuts nicely. when I bought a new house got excited and wanted the Best equipment so bought into the ridgid 18 volt system. extremely pricey would have been better off at Ryobi or harbor freight tools. but if you are a contractor I would go for rigid tools
With the "hacks" available from HD, I've found Ridgid to be not much more than HF's middle line. HF's various battery platforms also seem to come and go, and don't come with a competitive warranty.

TTI, a Chinese company, makes Ridgid's power tools, so I'd be shocked if they make any of them in the USA. Ridgid's hand tools, like for plumbing, are USA.

What hacks are you referring to here
Example: I recently bought the Ridgid subcompact drill, which came with a choice of a free tool, for $99 before tax. I chose the 6.5" subcompact circular saw as the free took. I could've returned just the drill, and HD would've refunded me something like $39 for it. Do the math, and that would've meant I effectively paid $60 for the circular saw, which is a good deal for something that ostensibly retails for $149.

In this case, I actually just sold the drill on Craigslist for $75 cash, meaning I paid $24 for the circular saw.

they're talk about deals like this one (which is expired now i believe)
https://slickdeals.net/f/16007494-ridgid-18v-brushless-subcompact-drill-driver-and-impact-driver-wit...

order the kit, then add the free tool, the cart will show you the value of each since HomeDepot splits the free tool value as a percentage of each item (not like Lowes, where it zeros out the free tool)... you just return the item you don't want, keep the other and you get tools ~40% off most the time.

only works with the make your own bundles, not the pre bundled kits.

OK. Thanks. Yeah, I wasn't 100% on where. But I was pretty confident about the lifetime guarantee.

Harbor Freight has been hit and miss for me. Half of the electric tools that I have purchased crapped out w/i 6 months of limited use. I buy Makita and Rigid cordless tools. Makita for the tools that I use a lot and Rigid for the occasional use tools or tools that I can't justify paying the higher price for, for example, I bought a nice Rigid fan w/ similar specs as the Makita, but significantly less money. If the fan stops working, I won't lose any money.
