So maybe it was an unnecessary step. Any idea why I couldn't get it working on Amazon?
Do they have a phone number to get ahold of an actual person that can look into why they are rejecting Amazon gift card loads?

Word of advice though, don't just buy 10 of them so your final total is exactly $2000. Throw on something cheap, so the total is an odd number, like $2001.93.
I used to work closely with some people that dealt with new accounts for a credit card company. They would close down cards and deny the sign-up bonus to people who they caught doing this. It was super easy to catch them too. "Walgreens: $404.95" x 10. Obviously, those people were just buying Visa cards over and over again.
Not saying that I agree with that policy, but banks hate it when customers find loopholes like that, and they sometimes proactively take steps to deny you your rewards.
Otherwise, it is nightmare to covert to real money to be fake money with some risks
Progressive also accepts PayPal. So I'm thinking of prepaying Auto Insurance for the next year when I'm up for renewal at the end of this year. Saving the Visa GCs for random one offs when Q4 is ending.
The missing link here is liquidation. That's what enables churn. Probably only really beneficial route is if you need to meet a CC spend. I don't think anyone is getting significant amount of % back @ office stores in order to make manufactured spending make sense given how much money you'd have tied up in these GC.
The days of easy and cheap MS are basically over. Ahh I remember getting so much free gas by MS at my local supermarket when they had vanilla GC points promos - but beyond that I didn't abuse it - wasn't worth my time or the risk to scrape a measly 2% or whatever the CC offered, all the steps involved, and the possibility of something being farked up at any time - card not activating properly, getting locked, the redemption getting borked, bluebird (the liquidation method) getting turned off, etc etc.
