Discover.com is offering Discover Cardholders: 5% Off Walmart Gift Cards when you Redeem Discover Cashback to purchase the gift cards from Discover's redemption portal.
Thanks to community member maxjf for finding this deal.
I held out for YEARS after doubling my money on that deal - like $2000 between 3 cards.
Now the best, repeatable, deal seems to be around the Holidays when they offer Happy cards @ 20% discount, and the card is accepted at Lowe's where you can buy 3rd party GC with it, so for me it's basically an Amazon 20% discount. That's happened the past 2 or 3 years.
But why buy a gift card for 5% off when you can just use PayPal at Walmart to get 5% off?
No gift cards with gift cards anymore.

This is a poor deal.. echoing the other post.... Capital one is 5% online at Walmart. I also use raise, when combined with the Portal that used to offer Cashback..I was getting minimum 7% off. Now it's usually 4+2 around 6 or a bit less..
Doesn't work anymore in the Lowe's I tried across Illinois, plus many lowe's in major metropolitan areas stopped carrying 3rd party gift cards. I know we are all after slick deals, but it truly is not worth the effort to try to convert the happy gift cards.
Well that's YMMV then. I went to 2 Lowes over the weekend and they still sold 3rd party GC.
Back in May of 2011, Discover had Shell gift cards at 50% of face value. Looks like I bought 12. I remember post of people spending thousands.
I don't buy Shell gas, generally more expensive than any other place. BUT, I did empty out my (3) Discover CC's then resell the cards for nearly double my money.

Discover PayPal 5% @ Walmart is limited to the rotating category bonus and and is only availability for 3mos out of the year, with a $1500 spending cap
Discover Gift card redemption 5% has no cap, and no ostensible end date.

I'll wait until they bring back the 20% extra value on Chipotle gift cards. This isn't worth the trouble if you ask me… especially if you have a 2% back on everything card.

i wouldn't waste my paypal category with buying walmart gcs; doesn't walmart or walmart.com have their own rotating category? ive learned to buy enough in a quarter (even with a cap) to keep me for a year
Because Walmart 5% isn't every quarter. I buy now and then use the GC in non 5% quarters. Same thing with grocery stores. We don't spend 3K in a quarter (two cards), so go with GC to use the rest of the year.
Astounding how little ppl can think outside of the box.

My Walmart is 1% on PayPal however I've been using cashapp boost for 5% the last few weeks which most people don't know about it seems.

I am talking about the "run as credit" happy cards, not the "redeem online" ones. Trust me, they still work.
Is that written on the card?
