Looking for something only to use for data storage.
Supposed you start from scratch, you need to buy/build a server and buy the drives. Or you can just buy this and the drives...

This guy has a dedicated server and says he doesn't need a NAS. It's like rolling in a car saying he never understood the purpose of bicycles lol.
I'll second the love of the Payboo card at B&H. Has saved me a lot of money buying not only for myself but for clients, too.

On most products with chips, there's still a significant shortage of fab capacity, even on older processes like the 14nm the V1500B is on, because higher margin products are taking priority. You can tell that that's the case because in our year of the lord 2021, Syno opted for a V1000 embedded chip from November 2018 rather than a more modern AMD equivale... oh wait, no, AMD has no fab capacity, so there isn't an updated chip.
It might be slightly cheaper on Black Friday or Christmas, but there's no glut. This has been basically out of stock at MSRP or backordered until about four weeks ago. Even if somehow, magically, GlobalFoundries found an extra 14nm fab in the last six months (they've not), it'll be at least six months until there's a glut.
But you do you, focus entirely on demand, and not on supply. Downvote and move on.
