This dude in the reviews was chopping vines/soft branches and the blade broke near the hilt. Seems like cheap materials.

Believe it or not, the $5 machete from Harbor Freight isn't bad. It's more of a brush machete, though as its fairly light.

Ummm, did you even read the reviews? The one guy did a review showing it broken after he owned it for a year and a half, then his son broke it from over use, so he gave it 4 stars.

Yeah long machetes like this don't last when they're made of low quality steel, unless they're not really used.

Machetes aren't usually made for heavy duty. Usually you would use them on light brush or to clear thin branches. If they were too heavy, you would just end up tiring your arms out quickly. That is, unless you're Rambo, then you can use one that is heavy duty to clear brush and hack off arms of anybody who gets in your way.
