Lowe's was clearing these out a few months ago for $5 each so I picked up a few. They are pretty small, but the display is very bright, I appreciate the temperature display. I actually haven't used the speakers on them so I can't comment on that. But if you need a small clock and would appreciate a speaker but don't need big sound seems like a decent pickup price.

I'm very tempted to buy a few more because I really love this clock but the display is starting to fail on one of the two we already have.

How prevalent is this issue? Is it just going to happen again if I buy more.

Are there any other clocks like this that run Android? Unfortunately the second gen is Alexa.

It's fairly prevalent, the display has failed on mine as well. After a reboot it works properly for a short period.

I can confirm that... some of the elements in my LCD 'essential' version have died. Kind of dumb for a clock when you sometimes can't tell what time it is without asking "Hey Google. What time is it?"!
I also have the regular Smart Clocks with the color touch screen and they are holding up fine. I would pay the extra money ($15 more at BB) and forego the 'essential' version.

YMMV greatly. We had two gen 1's (twice as tall, all black, better speaker) and the LCD burned out on one after about a year and a half and was replaced with one of these gen 2's. The other gen 1 is still going strong, roughly three years later, and the gen 2 is also fine.. for now. It's a gamble.

Edited for clarity.

I bought 4 the last time they were available for this price - the displays on 3 are failing. Still readable for 2 of them (only two of the LED segments are out), but I'm guessing not for long.

Not worth it, IMO.

I had a feeling. Wishful thinking. It's such a stupid shame because it's a really great device.

Same, I have 2 of these and on one the display segments are failing. Great other than that, but not buying any more.

just adding on, I too ahve 2 of these all the LCDs have issues. But not the same, so it keeps you guessing the time at night. Feeling tired? .....talk yourself in to a couple minutes more.

I have one of these, used it everyday for a couple years before I upgraded. I wouldn't have upgraded but the numbers on the lcd stopped displaying correctly, example if it was 8:30 it would look like it 3:10.
