The PS5 already has a 825gb SSD installed. Does this perform better than the existing one? Also, is this meant to replace it, or is there an extra slot for expansion? Thanks.

I ran out very quickly (some games take up 150gb+)… and I did not realize the PS5 takes only one extra SSD until after I bought 2 1TBs. Plus, it's a huge pain with the transferring of games to external hard drives that will not runPS5 games and back to a next gen system.
You can get a "true" heatsink that will fit for less than $10 on Amazon:

Other options are to get a slightly taller heatsink and leave off the door for accessing the drive to accommodate them, but you'll have to Google for specifics on those.
As with anything, you'll have people who love them and people who say avoid them. The Western Digital Black SN850 without heatsink has been similarly priced lately and I would 100% buy that one and add a $10 heatsink given the choice.

Historically speaking, that's not a practice limited to just budget brands (even Apple and AT&T are guilty of it). But usually once a brand gets caught, they account for it by rebranding or updating the model number if there's a significant change in components or controller:
