Currently going for 138, just bought one.
The price history on this ranges up to 349 in some places.
This is currently the cheapest from what I searched for new.

[Please note]
It is being sold at this price from a few different amazon sellers.
I chose stavvy sales at 100% rating since they have the better score compared to online king which is 92%.

There's also one used very good condition and cheaper, shipped and sold by amazon for 128.

I also searched on slickdeals to see if this was posted and found one from last year, the link still works, but I believe it should be updated to a current post.

I don't post here much, so constructive criticism is appreciated.

For classical music and jazz, these are, by far, the best in this price range. Maybe a bit boring for Rock and EDM but I have many other headphones for those genres. If you need a set of headphones for classical, these are highly recommended.
Ignore people quoting the Ω impedance… that is only a third of the equation, and the part to pay the most attention to is the sensitivity, which is 105 dB SPL (concert loud) /V @ 1 kHz (with a volt of output power, a test tone played at the "this is only a test of the emergency broadcast system" tv alarm pitch, it will sound as loud as an average live concert and louder than you should listen). Some headphones have less impedance than the K702, but be much harder to drive because their sensitivity is low.

So, at least the midrange is very easy to drive loud enough, including with the amps integrated inside of typical sound cards, smartphone dongles, and so on. Should work fine from your soundcard. I will say from experience, however, that the QUALITY of the amp will still be revealed by the AKGs, so while both your soundcard, a Sony Walkman ZX500, or a $600 discrete desktop amplifier all can play at equivalent loudness (and a PS5 controller will get "loud enough"), the $600 amp will still help the audio sound more crisp and have a more solid impact of bass attack and cymbal hits.

Beyerdynamic headphones DO use more metal in their designs; the metal materials DON'T inherently make their build "quality" better in the sense of durability, comfort, or acoustic quality compared to the resins of headphones like AKG or Sennheiser… just heavier, with a bit more luster to look at from the metal. All three of these brands make excellent headphones, your audiogram and personal taste will dictate your individual favorite.
Beyer = bright
Sennheiser = warm and bold (HD 800 being an exception)
AKG = somewhere between the two with emphasis on soundstage.
Beats = bass and treble emphasized over mids/vocals, more than just "warm"
Bose = chocolatey but muddy warm sound.

I have K701s and love them but would recommend getting a headpad like you would for an aviation headset. These are incredibly light but the band gets uncomfortable

AKG has questionable QA, and many dont last through daily use. That aside, they're great.

In my opinion the Philip's Fidelio X2HR is an equal or better alternative and sits around $150.
I've had my Q701s for like 7 years and they still sound great. I had the left ear go out but fixed it with some wire and still going strong. How hard are you on your headphones?

You mean you like needles piercing your inner ears???? I got rid of mine after 20 minutes and a headache! The treble made my ears bleed! lol.

Beyers have ear piercing treble? No way!

I couldn't hear any ear piercing treble on the Dt990's .......cause I couldn't hear at all after trying those 😎😜

Which price range $150 or the $300-$400?

Good for vocals?

I can't believe these retail for $300+ when the K701's which sound very similar goes for this price.

Anyone knows what's going on?

These are Studio Headphones.. so they have a neutral sound, which is useful for production. They are also open back so they will be audible to anyone around you and vice versa. It sounds like you might be better served by a different set. Just my opinion though. Speakers are highly subjective.

.

X2HR is a difficult recommendation.

This headphone will probably sound pretty lackluster from a computer, I wouldn't suggest getting this headphone if that is all you have as it will barely be an upgrade over your SHP9500. (don't roll your eyes just yet). I haven't quite pinned it down but the feedback I've received regarding this headphone is when not using a favorable source, the headphone's bass can be either non-existent, muddy, vocals can be grainy and distant sounding, quite frankly the overall experience can be pretty bad. When given a proper source this headphone has none of these issues and is probably one of the most rewarding experiences I've heard in the budget category and maybe one of my favorites. When people say that it does have a lot of bass, it really does! Unfortunately, I'm not sure what others definition of 'lots of bass' is but the only way I can seem to achieve the kind of bass I want without making the headphone sound like ass through EQ (which I dislike using) is to do this through the bass boost feature of my iFi air DAC. I specifically like turning xbass on through the air DAC and the air CAN amp together, so, much, fun!

This headphone is just difficult to get a feel for with so many variables, so it's not one I like to recommend without knowing more information.

I've heard some variants of the 770, the lower ohm ones would be pretty samey with your m50x, with a few minor differences.

I think the choices you have here are mostly side grades at this point with a few differences here and there. It will also be hard to make recommendations in earnest without knowing what kind of gear and budget you have.

Relatively new into the audiophile scene. How would these compare to my sennheiser HD 560s?
Well if your a gamer , these 2 headphones are the most toted audiophile gaming headphones next to the X2HR's and the hd800s's, I would say.

IMO the K702 might be one of the best headphones ever, most iconic sound stage I'd say, these would be my favorite perhaps, only problem, NO bass. that's where the 560s get an edge, very flat, great jack of all trade headphones.

I prefer X2HR's above everything else in the world including these though because they actually have a 'frontal sound stage'! and great low end, most 3D headphones out there. it's like being in a 3d fish bowl of sound, Musically they're the truth!
(best way I can describe this, they serenade your frontal lobe, instead of sound being stuck between your ears. you can hear music on your face, with your eyes closed at night, listening to a playlist ,it's an experience, sound moving front and back, up and down. they make my heart happy, I swear) -build quality's the best
best gaming headphones over all. (Next to the hd800s, but NO bass, hollow for music)
I got rid of my Hfiman Edition XS's and akg k702's for these. I'd pay $1000 for headphones that do what these do better!

I use them with a slick mini headphone amp here- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1 recommend this any audiophile headphone, incredibly clean! steal price, pocket size, long battery life...

but I digress, here's a full 560s vs k702 comparison K702 have the way better build quality (if the jack to the cable holds up that is)

Probably not worth it. They won't match the technicalities of the 1990 but the 702 and 712 are good headphones with a large soundstage. Build quality on the DT1990 is also much better.

I think this is a good deal for anyone in the market for a headphone like this. Only 235g too according to AKG which is really light.
I've got some 612s and really wish I could find a deal on 712's
But yes they're super light and comfortable. They just float on your head and they're easy to forget they're there. I've had them for four years now and can't even think about trying other cans other than some 712s, but my 612s are so nice I can't convince myself to drop $300 on some 712s. Mainly use them for gaming when playing with friends, otherwise just use those klipsch speakers that went on sale every week.

If you are willing to go closedback, I would suggest AKG K371. Bass aplenty. I find the bass a little too much, but I prefer neutral-bright cans.
