I see a lot of Ryobi talk. It's good for the homeowner. Ryobi has a lot of gimmick tools as well. But it's just not really a tool I'd trust for consistent use regardless of what motors or internal parts cross the assembly line with other brands. Ridgid is along side Ryobi as both are home depot brands. I trust the prior generation of ridgid tools. The latest Gen feels cheap. In the end find a brand you trust so you don't invest in various tools and batteries that don't work off each other.
Dewalt was mentioned, I've had lots of issues with Dewalt chucks on their drills. So much I stopped using Dewalt. Ridgid never a problem with the chuck, I've also noticed battery failures in Dewalt more than any other brand. Just my real world observation working in the entertainment industry where guys run tools 12 hours a day. Ridgid, you either get a good battery, or you don't. I've had a few DOA new in the package batteries from ridgid.
With Ryobi VS ridgid batteries. Ridgid batteries are easier to pocket and carry being flat on top as Ryobi has the old type neck that goes into the handle.
Lastly it's always a pet peeve of mine when people mistakenly refer to the ridgid Lifetime Service Agreement as a lifetime warranty. Read the LSA stipulations and requirements. It's Not a warranty. If you send something in it's on your own dime, and if they don't honor the service agreement it's your dime to have it sent back. It's a marketing gimmick for the most part.
All that said I choose ridgid over all other brands. But as stated the prior Gen of tools. Not sure I'd trust the latest Gen as it just doesn't feel proper and again they stepped backwards not forwards to advance the tech. All based on my experience of course. You're opinion may vary.

I wanted an impact driver & after reading reviews & watching YouTube side by sides I went with Makita for weight, sound & quality. My husband kept talking about Ridgid's warranty so kind of as a joke bought him his own Rigid drill/driver set on sale from an online outlet. After using my Makita & his Ridgid side by side, I actually prefer the Rigid. I seems just as light & it's one handed bit changing is smoother.
I have a couple sons in their 20's that do trade work. So last week I ordered my plumber kid a Milwaukee (his choice) drill & driver. Then I ordered my roofer kid (he just switched to sales but aspires to be a contractor) the DeWalt Atomic impact driver (his choice, but we all wanted that one!). Milwaukee is in and the DeWalt comes in Friday so I'll get to compare them Friday or Saturday if I don't get called into work. Guess I'll report back then!
My only complaint is just how expensive the other tools are and that they rarely go on any meaningful sales. I'm just your average homeowner that does some small woodworking projects on the side occasionally, but I sorta wish I had went with a Ryobi cordless system instead. Is that crazy?

R872311K is the new impact. R87012K is the new drill. They are smaller overall.
