I don't see anywhere in the title "4k"

The description has the wrong information in the header though so I would ignore that

not only 1080p but the chip in it is 8 years old (ie it's also a little slow.)

Its the a12 bionic, which four years old. You dont need much muscle for what the Apple TV (or any TV box) does.

The audience in totality which buys Apple TVs wouldnt be able to differentiate 4k IMO. Theyd sell identically 1:1 if they left them as HD.

It's an A8. 4k model is A12.

Latest Apple chip is A16 so the one in this ATV HD model is 8 years old.

The point again was this was not only 1080p which isn't that terrible imo but the chip is too old to even provide a great 1080p experience. I have the ATV from about 8 years ago on one of my plasma tvs (same A8) and it is kind of slow. So even if I just wanted a 1080p experience I would buy the 4k model.

Granted I would wait until a sale at this point as rumors of a new model have been flying and retailers were dumping the 4k for $110-$120 during the late summer. ...

I stand corrected. Selling this at $149 retail as "new" is basically mocking the end-user

Well, if it's an old model, that should be clear in the description. I'm sure this model is fine, but if only 1080p, it's still too much. My guess is more people have a 4K TV these days. Not everyone does, of course.
Technically, Apple is still producing and selling these brand new so it is the current version of the HD model. They've also updated it to use the new remote that came out with the new 4K model.

The unit itself is the same hardware as the 4th gen released in 2015. It has a substantially slower CPU than the 4K, but if you're just streaming TV you may not notice. The UI is still going to be snappier than a $30 streaming stick.

You might notice the CPU difference if you're using it for games or non-streaming apps. The 4K model is massively overpowered for just watching TV.

Nice deal. We've always had Rokus, but I've been Apple-TV-curious for a while. Getting this for a bedroom TV. If it works out, I'll look for a 4K one on Black Friday for the main TV.

Should be $49 for 1080p.
Seriously! My Apple TV from 2017 is 4 K. There's no justification to buy this model in 2022 unless it's more than half the price of the 4 k model.

Guys it only takes like 5 seconds to copy and paste the model number into Google. This is NOT 4k, it's 1080p.. the first row in the Walmart listing description is wrong because it erroneously calls this 4k but then later correctly states 1080p video. Also, people that can't distinguish 1080p and 4k are blind because the difference is night an day.

TLDR: serial number confirms this is 1080p, NOT 4k

I got the 4k version of this. Very worth it. No stupid ads like from other streaming sticks. Very fast too no lags at all. Also if you want to airplay from a website to stream movies very easy to do too if you have iphone.

I own the current HD model and there's no noticeable performance lag when using the UI or watching shows. Still performs much better than many Roku devices I've owned (and doesn't have ads). I'm guessing if you use your Apple TV HD for gaming, you might notice some performance degradation.

Having said that, I purchased a couple of the Apple TV 4K models back in July when Amazon and a few other retailers had them on sale for $120 ($110 with clipped coupon on Amazon). I'm sure the 4K model will go on sale again as we approach Black Friday. It would be easier to justify buying the HD model today if it were around the $50-60 price mark. At $80, I'll wait.
