Since this is asked so much:
Pixel 6a is not available for trade in because it's new and Google still sells them.

Its so easy to set narratives on social media by these so called influencers.
My last two phone upgrades I did through them taking advantage of the high trade-in value, and you get the discount instantly. Used it going from S20 Ultra to S21 Ultra, then also trading a S21 Ultra to get a S22 Ultra.
They send you the new phone. You then have a few weeks to a month to send back your trade-in phone. If you do not send it in then they charge you the credit, or if you send something completely different than what you claimed, they will charge you the difference between what you sent and what you claimed.
Even when ordering a $1300 phone with $950-$1000 credit and discounts they trust the customers enough to send them a brand spanking new phone on the "honor system". There is no reason that Google cannot do this, they just choose not to.

If they decide to renege on this promise, I will return the phone

You may receive the Trade-In Credit (if any) in the following form:
a credit to your original form of payment;
a store or service credit for usage on the Websites;
a Google Play credit; or
any combination of the above methods

How does Google decide how to give us the trade-in value credit? I definitely do NOT want $550 in close to useless Google Play or store credit.
Can someone with experience with prior deals clarify? Thanks.

any excess beyond the price will theoretically go back to your CC as a payment, OR as google store credit. No one knows for sure yet.
DEFINITELY NOT google play credit, which would actually be quite useful
Sounds like for this particular Google deal - my phone has to be paid off & unlocked - true?
Yes I do think I can pay it off ahead of time & still get the credits monthly till the end of the the EIP term to get me to my original net true cost.
However, my true question is if I still have a financial obilogation to TMO can I trade that phone into Google? I think the answer is No but the some on the Best Buy P7 P7P deal say that BB will take phones with remaining EIP terms.

The Google deal seems to negate the latter for trade ins.
The Best Buy deal doesn't - so long as I keep paying off the EIP.
Thanks for the feedback!

I took part in the previous trade ins for the Pixel 6a. I actually have 3 orders for those in my history, as I actually ended up returning the first of three orders and went through with the 2nd and 3rd order, including sending in trade in phones that I got full credit for.
First order that ended up being returned in full to Google: It said the trade in refund was going to be to my credit card. Obviously, nothing went through because I returned the order.
Second AND Third order said the refund was Google Store credit, BUT BOTH were refunded to my payment method. The actual email that was sent when they completed evaluation of the trade in and said the credit was coming my way actually has these two lines of text:
"Look for a $300.00 refund to your payment method in 2-5 business days."
and
"If Google Store cannot refund your payment method you'll receive store credit."
So while I would have thought the details listed in the trade in details would be a good indicator of what would happen, it doesn't look that way.
What's more likely? That when Google goes to give the refund for the trade in value that is higher than the original paid value that:
- Google refunds the full, higher total to the payment method
or
- Google refunds only the original amount charged to the credit card and then issues the remaining balance to be Google Store credit
I'm leaning towards it just being a one time full, higher credit card refund (but maybe that's just wishful thinking).
