Top Comments
1) The phone is UNLOCKED. (Mint only locks iPhones and specified Samsung devices)
2) You theoretically CAN sell the service, but you have a 45-day time crunch.
3) If you (or anyone) do not activate the service within 45 days it just expires, and you're out $90 (plus fees).
4) If you do not port a number you only get 6 months of service, not 12.
5) Check your Amex offers for a potential further $45 discount.

I think this is going to be a learning lesson for Mint that people will abuse the port-in requirements if you give them this steep of a discount off a brand new release. And, I think they'll end up taking a loss on this deal overall as the service loyalty simply won't pay off. To cover the $400 (let's call it $350 wholesale) device loss for each purchase, they would need someone to stick with Mint at the 4gb plan for 3 years total (1 free, 2 paid) on average. And that's just back of the napkin breakeven cost. Not easy as an MVNO in a highly competitive market/industry.
I mean I applaud them but wow, I genuinely think they've priced this like $150 too cheap.

That said, I think you overestimate how often people are willing to change service, especially when the service is as cheap as Mint Mobile. It has little to do with loyalty (loyalty to a brand/company is insane as a concept to me, lol) - for most, it is simply what is easiest. That's how the majority of subscription services work.
Promotions like this is great to attract those who would normally not bother switching services to save a few dollars, but for many dollars? Hmmmm. I've been with Google Fi for longer than I'd care to admit. Odds are, unless another deal draws me away, I'll probably be at Mint Mobile for a while if the service is adequate. I was already paying $30 a month on Google Fi for voice/chat and scrupulously managing my data to keep it under 1GB. Instead, it's $30 for unlimited? I feel stupid for not looking into it sooner now, lol - but that's the point, it's easy to just stay with what you got.

And by the way, it's relatively easy to find a simply unlimited Fi group to join for $20/mo. Dm me if you want, though I know you're with mint now.
Yes, everyone who bought was charged it
