Walmart has the same thing for the same $682.40. Different model #s. The Walmart version comes with the cover, the Amazon does not. I asked on chat Champion if there's a difference and here's what they said: "They are the same unit, just different models depending on the retailer. The 201040 is also a newer model."

Here's the links on Champion:

So, this for $682 or a gas only Westinghouse for $458? What do you think?

3...2...1 someone is going to recommend a tiny gas only inverter as an alternative to this because of bigfoot, err THD, might hurt "sensitive electronics" according to a guy on reddit Wink

BTW. great price.

Has anyone had experience with combining 2 - 30A plugs together to feed a transfer switch? The lack of 50A plug seems only drawback

Canceled my original order with Amazon and reordered at the $614.16 price! Silly that they won't price adjust but easy to cancel since I hadn't received it yet.

Thanks for posting the price change!

Sweet, Walmart also reduced it to $637.19. (Comparable to the Amazon option with the cover for $632.88).

Just got my order price adjusted with Walmart (previously ordered it for $682.40 - $727 after tax).

If my math is right, this comes out to ~$618 shipped and taxed (6.625% NJ) after 4% cash back from a well known rebate website and 5% cash back from Chase Freedom.

Since this is only 30A, is it not really what you want has a whole home backup generator?

I was told anything Under 20kw is too small for a whole home generator

Uhh I'm no expert by any means but that's not correct. Do they even make portable generators with 20kw capability? You'll most likely need a standby generator which will run you $16k+ from what I understand. Just keep in mind what a back up generator is ideally for. Is it nice to run the entire house? Sure, but is it needed during a power-down emergency situation? Not really. Be mindful of what's running simultaneously and you should be fine with a portable generator. And depending on the size of your home and what you run, a portable generator such as this may very well run your entire home with ease.

Yeah I was looking for one to be able to run my heat pump they told me it would need close to 20kw for starting
So that is probably out I'm not spending 5grand for a generator.
I am considering spending extra to buy from Costco with their 100% guarantee

Really depends on what you want to run. You can have a 30A plug installed on your house however do not expect to run the AC, even a 50A would be pushing running a heat pump with other loads. I have a 10KW generator which I use to run my well pump, lights, TV's, refrigerator, microwave, computer, etc. The size is probably slightly overkill but I'd rather have too big than randomly tripping breakers with a smaller generator which might save a few pennies an hour in fuel costs. Speaking of fuel costs, a generator runs most efficient 50-80% of the RATED load (not the BS starting load they advertise). Anyone telling you to get a 4KW, (more like 3400 watts RUNNING) for the sake of "efficiency" is probably running their generator full tilt, thus guzzling gas. Think of it this way: a full sized car will run more efficiently going 55 MPH than a small commuter car with the pedal-to-the-metal driving 105 MPH with the temp needle on red.

Your best bet might be to run a window AC or two. Close off rooms you are not using during the outrage. Even if it means having a slumber party with all the kids sleeping in the master bedroom or living room. I'm in NC, most of our long term outrages are doing hurricane season where it is still hot and humid. Sitting hot & sweating in the dark stopped being fun after Cub Scouts Wink
