Sorry for asking but is this a good phone? It has Android 12 so thinking it will get updates for a while? Was hoping to pickup something around $100 and don't need this 1 month of service though.

Since Metro is owned by T-Mobile, any chance I could immediately use this phone on my postpaid T-Mobile plan by just popping in my existing T-Mobile SIM?

Or is there any way to unlock it sooner, perhaps by having someone with an existing Metro account request an unlock code?

edit: Metro's unlocking policy does not seem to make any provision for their devices being unlocked before 180 days after that device's activation date, but I'm still wondering if they'll automatically work on T-Mobile's network, since that would satisfy my immediate need and save hundreds over T-Mobile's price.

According to the website, the price is $50 cheaper ($49.99 for the phone, plus the cost of the first month's plan) if you have a number to port in, but they require that you complete your purchase in store, instead of online.

Also:
"$20 activation fee per line may be required"

I got as far in the checkout process as I could without having to enter personal information and didn't see the activation fee added on, but that was just the first step of the checkout process. Perhaps, someone who actually completed the checkout process could confirm if this fee is added to new number online purchases or not.

This year, so far, all new phones purchased online do not have the activation fee. In store, even the corporate stores do charge the $20. (my experience only).

New question: Does this or any of the SAmsung line have esim capability? I do not see any mention in the text.

If you are concerned about updates the A53 5G will have 4 years of Android OS upgrades, 5 years of security updates. So the A53 5G should get Android OS upgrades until Android 16.

Why do companies keep getting rid of the headphone jack even in the midrange devices? I get thinking that "Yeah if they have a thousand dollars for a phone they'll have 200 for buds" (even though it's FREAKING 20% OF THE PRICE!!), but pulling the same shit on sub-200 devices is just anti-consumer

As far as in store, GV won't work. Not sure about online order though.

Samsung phones don't work on T out of box. Some others do.
