Why the thumbs down? For $176 it doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. An extra 8gb of RAM and it seems like a good basic home PC as long as you can live with the small hard drive capacity. Can install an extra storage drive if needed.

Received my pc today and opened the cover. Everything appears brand new. There is still plastic wrap on the molding. Haven't booted yet, but everything appears new.

Just a quick follow-up on this pc. It's great for what you pay! Mine appears brand new. I didn't add some equipment that I had laying around. I added a 4gb ram module and upgraded the ssd to a 512gb. The fan runs silent when cool, but as the fan increases it does get louder - so I added a noctua fan. It is now silent all the time. The pc seems fast for the light duty work I have it doing. I hope to use it to run a VM website and blue iris cameras.

The one with i5-11400 2.60GHz 8GB RAM 512GB SSD is also back in stock at $289 after the 15%. Is it worth the extra $120 over this one?

The PCI slot for the i5 Acer is Gen 4 vs. Gen 3 for the i3 Acer. Integrated graphics for the i5 is Intel 730 vs. Intel 630 for the i3.

I think that it's worth the additional cost for the i5 Acer, and would have chosen that option myself had it been in stock when I needed to replace my computer. Instead I ended up purchasing this i3 Acer because it was available and the i5 was not.

Is it worth 70% higher price, probably not but it depends what you want to do with it. The i5 will be a better "gaming" computer but it won't be good.

The i5 is "better" unless you factor in the cost, bang for the buck is the i3 by a good amount. The difference between the 2 is very minimal, you will not notice on most tasks the ones that you do it will be insignificant and if there is a big difference you probably should of bough a better computer than the i5.

These system are entry level budget friendly rigs but these days as long as you aren't gaming it should be more than enough. I bought the i3 and upgraded to 16gb of memory (I don't notice a difference) and I threw in another ssd and it's "stout enough" for all of my office tasks.

Has anyone bought this unit for use with PFSense? I have a known good DELL Intel x550-t2 NIC, that fails to POST with this computer. All I get is a continuous long beep. Computer works fine without the PCIe x550-T2 card installed. I'm worried that my either my PCIe slot is bad or the card is simply not compatible with this PC.

You're welcome. The fan I linked looks very similar to the stock fan at first glance but it actually has a different number of blades and is significantly quieter. Some other fans (like a high end noctua i tried) don't play nice with the PC's built in fan curve, and there's no way to adjust the curve.
