Even if you have an older slower USB port the fact that this supports 3.2 should not make it any slower than anything else you plug into a non-3.2 port right? And then when you upgrade to a newer system or want to use this portable on something that does use 3.2 you already have it. I do not see the down side to buying this if you do not have a 3.2 port to plug it into at the moment. But maybe I am missing something

I just did some testing with my self built external drive (nvme pcie drive using a usb enclosure) and you are right. This is my mistake 100%. Used the wrong cable... Even though they were thick and fast charging etc. they were not usb 3 and up apparently. 😒

To be fair though, the Crucial X6 drive only includes a type c to type c cable, no type c to type a cable, or c to a adapter... I think this is a big miss on their part.

The enclosure i bought for my nvme drive includes both, type c to type c and type c to type a cable. You would think Crucial would be smart enough to include at least the type c to type a adapter (which they do sell separately btw)...

I bet you were using a USB-C to USB-A cable or adapter that only supported USB 2.0 based on those speeds. They're exactly what you'd expect for USB 2.0.

Unless you have a type c port usb 3.2 that is compatible stay away as the speeds will be horrible.

Sadly that is not true in this case, hence why I warn against it.

2 desktops with usb 3.0 ports and 1 laptop with usb 3.0 port
results are as follows...
Attachment 12256036
I have USB sticks that are faster than this.. Any external hdd (platter drive) will perform bettter... So very disappointing for an SSD drive...
I see posted screenshots on amazon reviews of much faster performance but not in the case of USB 3.0

Hence why I returned mine. And I had the 2TB for ~$115 from Amazon

No, there are C to A that can do full 3.2 Gen 2 speeds.

If I was still doing Uber, I'd jump on this. I've already collected at least 5 TB of dashcam footage from just doing Uber for 2 years "part time". The statute of limitations for anything an Uber driver can be accused of is several years. Better to be safe than sorry.
