i use this. building up a bunch of points that can be used on amazon so it's better than nothing. you have to make 5 small charges a month to keep it going....
I use Amazon gift card weekly refuel, plus 1 rent payment, 5 transactions in total
Yes you do get points for mortgage payments. This is an old FAQ and also they do not advertise this. Who knows, they might change their stance in the future, but for now it works.
What if mortgage is with wells fargo. This is interesting transaction.
I've never heard of a landlord not taking a check AND a situation where Plaid is the only option to verify a checking account.
Your situation seems like a one in a million. Bad business practices by the landlord.
Zillow is a rent payment system for a lot more than 1-in-a-million rentals, so I think you might be underestimating the impact.... if you google around you'll find any number of threads on reddit and various financial boards of folks who ran into this same issue.
I've no idea what the stats on not taking a check are- but I sure wouldn't want to when there's easy electronic systems to manage collecting rent payments as a landlord, it's not 1973 anymore, and nothing in state law requires him to accept checks, and I can't see why it's bad business practice for him to use a system easier and simpler for him.
Lastly- plaid isn't the ONLY way to verify- they also offer than manual "two deposits then you report back to us" method... but of course since it's not a normal checking account that also does not work with Bilt (again this is discussed on the various threads of folks who've tried both methods).
I do at least give credit to Bilt for being willing to give customers the points anyway even on transactions they didn't end up involved in, so kudos there.

This is not correct. They allow you to generate a routing/account number and will email you with trial deposit amounts for manual verification.

Except, again, it absolutely IS correct. Not sure why you keep denying a known issue Bilt themselves admits is an issue with no current working solutuon.
Hence why I quoted Bilt also telling you it does not work AND specifically cited the "two deposits and report back" method DOES NOT WORK.
You DO get an email about the amounts.
Then Zillow tells you they're the wrong amounts.
Again, LOTS of people have posted about this not working. Because it doesn't work. Bilt themselves tells you it won't work and eats the cost of giving you the points anyway because it does not work.
did successfully save the card information online but get stuck on the penny test verification as the micro deposit amount doesn't match Zillow record at all, and I wasn't able to pay

I emailed Zillow support when I tried enrolling. Evolve Bank and Trust, where your "checking account" is held, is not supported by Zillows payment processor.
Apparently these can report rent payments to credit bureau without needing to open a cc. They basically assume your rent as a credit line and report.
Inputs appreciated
This is Claudio from Bilt Rewards support. Thanks for reaching out! When you are approved for the Bilt MasterCard and you rent outside of the Bilt Rewards Alliance, to pay for your HOA fee, you can pay directly through your property's online payment portal (ClickPay) without fees by using a Bilt Rent Account.
For this payment method, we'll generate a unique routing and account number for you to use in your resident portal. Whenever your unique routing and account numbers are used to pay the HOA fees, we'll charge your Bilt Mastercard for the same amount. That way, you earn points on rent without paying the processing fees normally associated with using a credit card on an online payment portal (ClickPay)!
It's also important to know the Bilt Rent Account is only for HOA fee payments (not mortgage payments or property taxes) in your online portal to earn points and avoid credit card fees. You should never deposit or transfer funds to your Bilt Rent Account.
Just got one. Thank you for giving us the head's up! Unfortunately, I already paid my rent for this month.
But it seems silly to not use this. That's a lot of points over time.
For those who pay themselves a rent check, I wonder if this will cause the IRS to pay more attention to you. I believe there's now a requirement to report transactions that exceed $600
What is the value of the points? Is it 0.6 cents per point?
Quite a bit more than that since you can transfer them to airlines and hotels (though Hyatt is the only one worth doing that with).... including American which has very little in the way of point transfer opportunities otherwise but some excellent values for point usage. it should be pretty trivial to get 1.5-2 cents a point that way for some coach and hotel bookings... more in some cases. And if you book biz or first more like 4-6 cents a point.

That requirement was pushed to next year...and only applies to income processed by third parties-- not writing yourself a check against an account that is also yours... (though I'd be kinda surprised if that worked and bilt themselves didn't flag the payee being the account owner)
