Beware...Rampant fraudulent transactions in Bilt Mastercard .
here's the interesting thing. I applied for the card on 7th Jan and my card was instantly approved. I got a mail that my physical card is shipped and should reach me in 5-7 days.
In the mean time I see in the Bilt app that there are 2 charges from Amazon.br... I'm like What the Fish??? I dint even receive the card yet and its compromised in 3 days???
A friend of mine I referred on 9th opens account and 10th (just few mins back) calls me and asks why do I see a charge from Amazon.br in my card activity. In his case its barely 20 hrs since he applied for the card.
So i pay about 24000$ for flights and 40000$ for rent each year. Is there any credit card i would get more cashback and/or points with than with this card?

There is NO credit card that pays for rent other than this (you are hit with service fees etc which is more than what you get as credit card points in almost all cases). So, for your 40K in rental charges this is the best card.
For travel you should look at cards like Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred, Capital One Venture X etc. These cards come with annual fees but you can get good sign-up bonuses and then also transfer the points/miles to travel partners and use them.
I would NOT recommend this card for putting your 24K in flights.
So a bunch of people have mentioned setting up Amazon auto reload of $1 every week to make sure you hit the minimum 5 transactions, but I see that amazon reload is minimum $5, am I missing something?

Yes. I think they manually do it reload $1 4/5 times.

auto-reload so you can set it and forget it is minimum $5.
if you just want to reload your account one time, you can manually ask for $1, pay for it, then complete the purchase. if you do this, i would recommend more than $2 because i have seen bilt not count tiny purchases and if you are doing this process, it means you care about the count.
do this 4 times per billing period, i believe the rent payment counts as one. i would recommend doing the reload on 4 different days because if you do 4 in one day, bilt might not process (count) all of them correctly. we all know their system is crap.
I applied for the Wells Fargo BILT Rewards card on January 4, 2023 and was approved on January 5, 2023. Card arrived in the mail on January 9, 2023. Tried to make the first purchase on January 12, 2023 but was declined twice. Called customer support on January 13, 2023, and they said it had fraudulent charges on it. How can the card have fraudulent charges before I even use it?
This card is through Wells Fargo. I don't like Wells Fargo at all but I'll take whatever points I can.
They gave me a very low beginning balance so my utilization is high... My Sapphire Preferred is double the limit they gave me. I tried requesting an increase but got denied twice citing the age of the account. I've paid the card in full every month.

Scammers will do the credit card fraud equivalent of war dialing if they find a merchant whose site is poorly secured... they'll spam huge #s of small purchase attempts basically just trying every number in a range of CC numbers and record any that actually work.

A statement provided by Bilt on reddit states that this has been caused by a BIN attack:
Hey all – quick update from Bilt. We have been made aware of a global fraud ring that has been launching what are called BIN attacks. In short, they use compromised merchants to randomly test millions of potential card numbers to see which ones work, focusing in on one card range at a time. While many of these card attempts get blocked (often invisibly to the customer), occasionally charges make it through. This has been happening across banks and we are aware that a few of Wells Fargo Bilt cardholders have experienced fraudulent charges as part of that. Please note that you will never be liable for any fraud. Wells Fargo is reaching out to any impacted customers. And you can also contact Wells Fargo's fraud team directly at 1-800-723-5533. They will remove any fraud charges and overnight you a new card. We put our customers' security first and will make sure that this is resolved for you quickly. Thank you again for your patience!
Update: We have been informed that the better number to call is 1-833-404-2272.
If the above is accurate and the unauthorized charges are a result of a BIN attack then personal information such as SSN, address etc should still be secure.
I had one question and was wondering if anyone has experienced it.
If your Bilt card is blocked and your rent payment is due (which was set up using the ACH number) then will the payment go through? I asked the customer care but they were not able to answer. Trying to see if we have any real world experiences.
The speed at which this card is getting compromised/blocked it is very likely that many will face this situation.
Another point - will having the Bilt protect ON (meaning pull from the bank account directly) be helpful in such cases where the card is blocked?

'BiltProtect Debit' toggle option is available below 'FAQs' and 'Pay with Points' section.
Did you get the points for mortgage payment?
