That's for 8 servings… $4.56 a serving or $.087 per gram protein… seems steep
I only buy protein powder and that is generally a good deal to me under $.06 /gram -ish

Most people don't pay attention to the serving sizes, especially on this product. This protein powder has as much protein as most any other product on the market.
I make smoothies every day with this, and it lasted me over a month.

Don't buy weight gainers like this. It all ends up in the toilet. Get a quality whey, oat powder (or 1 minute oatmeal) and dextrose powder. Use that for bulking if that is what you are trying to do.

Any specific brands of 1 minute oatmeal that have as much protein?

What are you talking about? I said whey first (protein), oatmeal and dextrose for carbs. This product uses maltodextrin. Oatmeal and dextrose are more effective.

Why would this end up in the toilet?

This is primarily maltodextrin, which is a very fast digesting carbohydrate of a similar GI index to dextrose. I don't think your body is going to see much difference between the two. I can see some advantage to oatmeal as it contains fiber, beta glucans but it also has a much higher satiety index score (which admittedly doesn't mean much when combined with other things) which is counter to what someone might need if they are consuming a mass gainer in the first place.

Most of the science based fitness people nowadays seem to promote flexible dieting and a "if it fits your macros" approach and will argue the specific source of various macros generally doesn't matter with a varied diet.

I agree that mass gainers are unnecessary at best and you'd probably be better off with whey protein and a mix of whole foods. But Im curious why dextrose would have any benefit over another carb source.

One serving of this is 52g of protein. A typical whey protein is 20-25g per serving and about $1 per serving right now (not on sale). So you're still paying 2.25x the cost of full price regular whey protein. Most people that are going to use a protein supplement are doing so to reach a protein target, seems like you could just add some milk or an extra banana to your smoothie if the amount of protein isn't your primary use case.

Something like this is for people that have trouble getting enough calories. A scoop of regular whey and a Snickers would still be cheaper and more nutritious than this (and taste better IMO)
