I just ordered these for my living room thinking they were the theater speakers with the added up firing Atmos speakers. After watching a video review, I know realize the cinema series are twice the size as the theater speaker setup. Not sure how my wife is going to feel about this. At least they're loud enough for me to hear them from the dog house I'll be in when they arrive on Thursday and she sees just how big they are.
I would suggest skipping on these.
These are more for a small environment and TBH you're probably not gonna get any true Atmos immersion from these.

To use these properly the receiver is going to cost much more. You should spend most of your budget on the speakers.

Yes. They aren't bad (and for this price are quite acceptable) but Klipsch's Reference Premier is what people really should get (or something else). Cost, however is a factor with the Reference Premier line.

Also, Atmos can be great but if you have high or sloped ceilings, it doesn't work as well as with standard height flat ceilings.

These are actually designed to bounce sound off the ceiling. They work best with standard 6-8ft flat ceilings. Up firing atmos speakers will add some volume/height with vaulted ceilings, but you will not get that positional bounce.

How is this versus the Costco deal from earlier this month?

atmos is a scam to try to get people to upgrade their already excellent speakers
You will feel that way until you experience a good ATMOS setup. Then you will want one.

true but, sound always bounces around your room fwiw, ever since they had electric speakers

this tech has been mastered at 5.1 7.1 9.X etc

This is ridiculous. Atmos coverage is still increasing but "sound bounces around anyway" is just uninformed. It's separate height channels, mixed independently. There's definitely diminished returns in upgrading from a 5.1 or 7.1 setup to 5.1.2 (I probably wouldn't), but to write off the entire technology as a scam is shortsighted.

With that said, I actually agree that at this point I'd probably focus on a putting the money into a good 5.1 setup vs. the extra Atmos. These speakers probably marginal unless you have a standard 8' ceiling room, and the subwoofer won't hit the lows that, for me, provide enough immersion. It's all cost vs. benefit though. I'd make sure my receiver supported Atmos and 8k for future-proofing (there are budget options that meet this requirement now, the Yamaha TSR-700 comes to mind), and I think the sweet spot is a few hundred $ more in investment in speakers, but you can definitely get into cost creep in this hobby.

Question for the experts. I am finishing my basement and its a pretty open space. Would this work well for an open, fairly large rectangular home theater area? Its such a rabbit hole to go down with A/V. Price seems great, but i also dont want a HTIB kinda deal.

To expand on this, I too and finishing my basement. Also a very large open area with open ceilings (no drywall). Will these upfiring speakers still work with an open ceiling (exposed beams, pumping, electrical etc)

No not really, ideally the ceiling should be a flat smooth surface and 8-12ft in height.

I would suggest just skipping an"Atmos" setup and just build a good 5.1 setup.

A good 5.1 setup can easily perform as good if not better than these entry level/alternative "Atmos" setups.
You would need a good one anyways to make "Atmos" worthwhile IMO.

Buyer beware - the wife approval factor for these is dangerously low; the speakers themselves are huge.

I didn't get it. The spec says "Includes four satellite speakers outfitted with Dolby Atmos technology, this system delivers height effects from the front AND back for a world-class experience". Are they treating front left and right as satellite speakers?

I got this from Costco at the exact same price, but eventually ended up returning it to get the Jamo at $499 from Adorama. I just didn't like the fact that I'm paying for .4 Atmos that would be difficult to use to the fullest.

What are the actual dimensions? This is definitely a htib type of set. For home theater i have read it's best to just do a good 3.1 setup first if you are on a budget and build the rest of the 5.1, then add Atmos. Most of the sound comes from the front 3, and the least comes out of the atoms, and upfireing is very lackluster implementation to even bother spending the money on a receiver that could run these speakers in a 5.1.4 setup. A good 3.1 setup would blow these away. They look small and the center won't be best with the mtm design. The center is actually the speaker you should spend the most on because it handles most of the sound for movies. A 3 way speaker would be best for this, but also 3 matching bookshelf speakers for LCR and a good sub is also a budget friendly way to go. The kef's are highly recommend on hometheater fourms I am on, 3 of these, skipping the center since it's not that good, https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kef-...lsrc=aw.ds

And if you have the budget for it a svs sub for around $500 you would have a good start to your home theater setup, and you can just get a used AVR receiver to save money. You can get high end ones for $100-200 since you don't need Atmos on the secondhand market. Heck I got lucky and found an Atmos 7.2 Integra DRX 4 for only $100 on marketplace, running it as 5.1.2. People upgrade them and sell thier old one cheap sometimes.
