SWA has announced that, starting in 2023, Southwest is raising the qualifying benchmark for the Companion Pass from achieving 125,000 qualifying points to 135,000 qualifying points in the same calendar year.
You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.
If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.
Yes! The best plan is the qualify to earn the companion pass in early 2023 and the CP goes the rest of the year and all of 2024!
Yes, but you should make sure both bonuses hit in early 2023 (instead of one bonus hitting in late 2022 and one hitting in early 2023)...Track your spending.

Had to cancel the card I received 2 days ago and will re-apply in a day or 2. Seems ridiculous to have to jump through hoops like this but it is another 25k pts...
what is the combining you guys are talking? also would like to know.
The second or third post on this deal was talking about combining getting an individual (personal) SWA card (just like this deal), alongside a SWA business card deal -- using a business.
That was the combining.
You can no longer do Two different 'individual" cards. That stopped years ago.
So, if you qualify for each deal, and if you have a business, you can possibly do the combining with one individual SWA card (like this deal) and one business SWA card. Both bonuses hitting in the same year (early 2023 would be ideal) will get you tons of points and a companion pass too.
I will get this one. I'm getting a new chase credit card every year. Getting the points and cancelling.
I rotate over the years between Southwest (24 months) , Sapphire Preferred (4 years) and United Airlines.
United Airlines and Sapphire Preferred have the added benefit of primary insurance for car rental car damage, so I like to keep one of those active at all times no matter what.
But the points from SWA are definitely the most flexible, the most valuable and the most useful to me.
I have a Southwest Card that the bonus was awarded over two years ago. But, I need the points that will be posted 11/27/22 to get to Companion Pass. Do you think I am good to cancel my current card on day 11/30, and then apply for this card? The 75,000 goes a long way toward CP and I don't fly as much as previous
I got a card, can my partner of ten years get a card also and transfer the points over for a companion pass?
You can transfer points but they do not count towards the Companion Pass. Think that is one of the stipulations.
It also cost $ to transfer points. You get a credit for some cards, like mine is $500 in transfer credits but what you proposed is not a usual way to do it.
1 personal card and then 1 business card are the normal process for getting CP within the same year,
I hope to get my 155k pts(this 75k personal card + 80k business card) mid January qualifying me for CP the remainder of 2023 and all of 2024.
Not to mention 155k pts worth of travel. It's really a no brainer since the $8k total spend in 1st 3 months will just be bills I have to pay anyway..

I usually wait 30 days being already canceled before applying again, but I don't know the rule.
It's unclear from your post, but it seems your statement date might be on the 27th of the month.
Why don't you call and ask CHASE if you cancel today, whether the (pending statement) points will transfer over to RapidRewards anyway? (I believe they will...if so, you will have your Comp Pass).....If they will....just cancel today...wait 30 days, then apply in early Dec.
Just a thought. I think that is a better strategy than canceling on Nov 30 and applying again on Dec 3.
Does everyone applying have a business for the business card. I don't so that means I cannot apply for the business card correct?
This offer does NOT require that you have a business.
If you are applying for the business card, then, usually you do need a business.
However, in years past, people have said that they apply as a sole proprietor business as themselves for such things as selling on EBAY with their own Soc Sec Number and try to get the business card that way, but that is just what I have heard. I have never tried it personally, but I have applied for the business with a small LLC that has been used and been approved that way before. Google it. This has been discussed before.

Yup, this worked perfectly for me. Just enter your name as business and use your SSN.
New to this and want to earn A-List and CP for the first time. Is this deal the best way to do so? I already have 20k points on my Southwest account.
I do not believe these bonuses will significantly help you for A-List qualification.
For companion pass partial qualification or full qualification, see the immediately prior posts. For full companion pass qualification, it would need to be with 2 applications (individual card + business card)
