SWA has announced that, starting in 2023, Southwest is raising the qualifying benchmark for the Companion Pass from achieving 125,000 qualifying points to 135,000 qualifying points in the same calendar year.
You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.
If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.
Yes! The best plan is the qualify to earn the companion pass in early 2023 and the CP goes the rest of the year and all of 2024!
Yes, but you should make sure both bonuses hit in early 2023 (instead of one bonus hitting in late 2022 and one hitting in early 2023)...Track your spending.

If you don't have the credit card number or the credit card anymore, check your Rapid Rewards online account at southwest.com (login and click "MY ACCOUNT")...it gives you almost two years worth of Rapid Rewards account activity. Filter by credit card, and look to see if you achieved a bonus in that time frame.
But easiest way is to login to chase online and look at your old statements.
Over the years I've gotten the companion pass by getting a business and personal card. I'm clear of the 5/24 rule and was approved for a biz card this month. I then applied for a personal but was denied. After numerous phone transfers I was told denial was because the biz card had my business name along with my personal name. But this was the way I've always done it. Any work around to this ? Thanks.

Someone else reported this too recently (See last post of page 16 of this thread). The Biz card is ALWAYS going to have someone's personal name too, but it is still a BIZ Card.
This is so wrong -- and contrary to the terms of the individual card offer which clearly state on the "personal" card that the limitations do not apply to business cards.
If I were you, I'd hit my bonus on the BIZ Card quickly....then cancel it quickly.
Then apply for the SWA Individual Card after Biz is canceled.
But You shouldnt have to do that under the terms of these cards. Maybe also call back and argue with them some more -- after quoting to them the terms. The terms are in the link -- and I read the terms as being contrary to what Chase is saying.
(Also, other people reported being able to do the Biz+Individual cards with this offer)

Good advice. Any reason I shouldn't wait until late December/early January to close the biz card & then reapply for personal on the chance I'll be able to get the CP if my personal card is approved ? Thanks

You don't want to close the Biz card in late Dec that you just got approved for. You want to get the Biz Card, use it but complete the initial spend requirement in early January or February so your bonus points hit in calendar year 2023 (not 2022). Then cancel Biz. Then, apply for individual card--- and go for the (second) bonus with the individual card in early or mid 2023..
I applied on 11/21 for the business card using the recommendation everyone was saying to put my name as the business and I answered everything honestly. I sell things from time to time at my house and make maybe 1K a year doing it. They called me immediately due to me having fraud protection and I confirmed it was me. They called me again the next day for fraud protection again asking if it was me and that if I wait on the line for a couple of minutes they will put my application through. I was approved.
I then applied for the personal card 11/26. I received a call right away but this time they put it through as I was on the phone as well without having me wait.
I will be applying for the sapphire preffered sometime early next year to be able to transfer points. I wish the SW chase card earned UR points as well so that I can have more points to transfer for Hyatt
If it were me, I would call the business reconsideration line in a few days and ask if they need any additional info. (Within page 15 of this thread has the useful image of the reconsideration line process, but I think that image is for Individual cards, but still worth checking out).
UpgradedPoints dot com says this: "To check your personal Chase credit card application status by phone, call the application status line at 800-432-3117. For business applications, call 800-453-9719."
That is what I have done in years past when I got the 30 day notice. (Myself, I havent applied for a biz card in two years now, but, for me, it was always just verification of id/verification it wasn't fraud).
Good luck.
Thanks OP for the original post. I've been approved for both cards and have the expenses so I'm just waiting to spend.

So my situation is opposite from FairPassenger3466, I got approved for personal card but my business application is pending for further review. Does this mean no news is good news for the BIZ card? I did this both on Wed 11/23 but haven't heard back re: the BIZ card as of today, will be calling tomorrow to see where the application sits. Getting a bit anxious that I may get denied for the BIZ card which then my whole plan of earning the CP won't pay off, any advice or I guess it's a waiting game at this point. Wish me luck!

I went ahead and applied for the business one first on the recommendation of some blogs I've read. I also read to wait atleast 1 day before applying for the personal. Hopefully they don't deny you but I would call and ask too if I was in your situation.
I just canceled my RR plus card that I got back in 2018. Will I have any issues applying to the priority card before the offer deadline in 6 days?
I plan on applying for the business card today for the CP, but it's dependent on if I can receive another personal card.
Thank you!

Not for the companion pass. All of the points have to be earned by the same person. Transferred points don't count towards CP
