SWA has announced that, starting in 2023, Southwest is raising the qualifying benchmark for the Companion Pass from achieving 125,000 qualifying points to 135,000 qualifying points in the same calendar year.
You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.
If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.
Yes! The best plan is the qualify to earn the companion pass in early 2023 and the CP goes the rest of the year and all of 2024!
Yes, but you should make sure both bonuses hit in early 2023 (instead of one bonus hitting in late 2022 and one hitting in early 2023)...Track your spending.

So, any of the folks who got business card approved, but personal denied were able to get personal one somehow? I applied for business one yesterday, got the 30 day email, then approval today. Planning on applying for personal one tomorrow, but wonder if I should wait.
I just canceled my RR plus card that I got back in 2018. Will I have any issues applying to the priority card before the offer deadline in 6 days?
I plan on applying for the business card today for the CP, but it's dependent on if I can receive another personal card.
Thank you!
I don't think the six days (from cancellation) will hurt you. I have done that in the past.
From reports, people have successfully gotten the Biz and then individual, but two people reported here that they were denied the follow-up Individual card because Chase said they already had the Biz card (doesn't make sense under the terms of the Individual card) but that is what was reported by two people.
Others, before and since, have reported they were able to get Biz+Indiv card recently.
I don't understand it but that is what has been reported here the past few weeks.

Appreciate the response. I meant you can only have one personal card at a time. When I apply for the priority card, am I going to have any problems because I just canceled my plus card this morning?

I wasn't clear in my response but I don't think that will be a problem (individual cancellation + new individual application short time thereafter).
Also, as a general rule you can't have gotten more than two new credit cards in the prior 30 days (2/30 rule), but I didn't see that as an issue for you.
If you live where there are a lot of Southwest Airlines Flights, I think the SWA Rapid Rewards points are better.
If you live in a place where Southwest is limited in its schedule, maybe something else then.
For me, Rapid Rewards are the most flexible and best 'points' to have. And if you can try to qualify and get a companion pass at some point in 2023, then, even better.

You can only get 1 bonus every 24 months in personal… so if it's been 24 months since your last bonus you'll be ok, if not, you won't get the bonus points..
Are these the regular "bonus points" that you can use for credit back, travel, gift cards, etc.? Or are these Rapid Reward points only for travel?
As is the case with all co-branded credit cards, they are the specific points currency of the travel partner whose name is on the card. So, the latter.

After calling reconsideration, I learned it's dependant on the old cards end of cycle which is 2 days after end of promotion not when you close it. So I was able to get the the business card but was denied the priority.
Reinstated my plus and going to try to supplement the 80k from business with referrals!
I applied Biz (80k offer $199 fee) on 10/25/22, got 30-day response but the very next minute got approval email. Rush delivery overnight, card received on 10/27/22. Will hit $5k in first week of Jan 2023.
Applied Plus Personal Card (75k offer $69 fee) on 11/28/22 (33 days after Biz), got instant approval, but the credit like was $2k only. I have about $70k credit line in number of cards with Chase. Rush delivery overnight, card received 11/30//22. Will hit $3k in first week of Feb 2023.
Also asked customer service to transfer some credit line from other Chase card to Plus Personal Card, and the new credit line is $5k. Probably this will be third time I will make it to Companion Pass. I utilize Southwest a lot.
My credit scores are very high. FICO 833, Three regular agencies 800 - 816. 17 Yrs. of average credit age never missed a payment in 17 years. I was under 2/30 and 5/24.
how do you check business card to see if the offer is for 60k or 80k. I can see it on my personal card fine.
The offer on the Original post originally only showed the three individual cards and the one 80,000 $199 annual fee Biz card variant.
If you get a referral from an individual, it will show all 5 cards (2 biz cards, plus the three individual cards)
The individual cards offer 75,000 bonus points
The two biz cards differ in their terms 60,000 vs. 80,000 bonus points -- $99 annual fee vs. $199 annual fee (different initial spend amount and different benefits).
Find an individual referral link and it will clearly show all five. That's how I am able to see it.
