Seems nice, but the 9 5980HX isn't even as good as the newer gen Ryzen 7 6800H that most laptops have now.

This looks like the same laptop that I got a couple weeks ago from BB and will be returning today. The worse Wi-fi ever, problems with it not going to sleep when I tell it to, but only going to sleep when the power plan kicks in, random reboots while in sleep, horrible micro-stutter...

I just purchased the Helios 300 and I'm loving it but how does it compare performance to this? Thank you for your insight!

Can this be used with the lid closed? My G15 crashed and overheat when used with lid closed and heavy load.
Yes. I use an external monitor with this laptop in a vertical stand and it works fine. I had an older ASUS that wouldn't let me do it as well. It was so annoying. The only reason why I leave the lid cracked open is to hit the power button when I completely turn it off.

Was looking at the Helios yesterday it sold out…I bought this ASUS deal today 1440p screen and 12gb vram and it compares to a 3070/3080 seems worth the $100 more.

A youtuber mentioned similar issues as you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbcAaB8LtYI

Apparently after RMA replaced the mobo, the laptop works as intended. Maybe you got a dud and can return and just rebuy another one and take a chance but it might not be worth your time to fiddle around with trial and error from some QC issues.

I bought for desktop replacement. As such I use an external monitor via displayport 1.4, a full size external keyboard (for some numpad action) and an external mouse. The detail and smoothness of Shadow of the Tomb Raider is exquisite. ASUS has addressed all the previous issues with this model in the one I received (faster/updated memory, thermal paste not spread on with a peanut butter knife, etc). No camera is a plus for me, personally (if I need to I can always use the camera on cell phone or ipad for that). Owned for a month and very happy so far.

The processor is better on the Predator, but the GPU and Screen are better on the Asus.

did they update the RAM on this revision? From what I read on the 5900HX version, the performance was handicapped by crappy RAM
It has some improved timings compared to original version but it is still "slower ram" upgrading the Ram to crucial dual rank makes a noticeable difference

For wifi visit ROG Asus forums/ and 600 series motherboards and drivers thread for mediatek. Have tested two laptops and had no issues. Have not ran into other issues myself.

Did this model have any issues with the liquid metal leaking and build quality issues that led to overheating. Or has that been fixed on later revisions.
I checked, any models that after July 2021 should be OK.

There shouldn't be anymore that old by now.
Mine is from Dec 2021.

Glad to see this deal again. I purchased this a week ago, picked it up om last Friday and has been testing it during the weekend. So far I am satisfied with it, but it came with some very annoying issues.

The Good:
This is a very powerful machine at this price point. I have an Alienware Area-51M R1 that costed 3.8K+ and had all the top specs at the time of purchase (2 years ago), this laptop outperformed the old Area-51m by miles. 3DMark testing score is much higher.
It is surprisingly cool. I ran Witcher 3 at 1440p ultra setting, and it was not hot at all. So far I haven't tested other games yet.
The screen is very thin. 1440p QHD.
The design is good, it looks very nice, and doesn't look cheap. The keyboard lighting is fancy although I almost don't care about it. There is a lighted label on the back of the screen too.
The size is reasonably. I has an ASUS ROG 17 inch and the Alienware mentioned above, both are huge. Traveling with the Aienware is very painful. Compare to those two, I feel this one is very portable and small.

The bad:
No webcam
Fan is a bit loud but acceptable.
The material combined with the black color of this laptop, attract finger prints easily.
AMD software doesn't auto configure game graphic (unlike GeForce Experience)

Now here is the ugly:
There are some annoying issues with this laptop, and if you know how to deal with it, you will like this laptop.
1. The WiFi Adapter. DON'T DOWNLOAD the Mediatek driver recommended by the MyAsus program. That will break your laptop. The problem with that driver is, everytime the laptop came back from sleep, it will lose the WiFi adapter. Then you can't open the Wireless setting, nor can you troubleshoot. And if you try to restart the laptop, it will get stuck at rebooting then blue screen. The solution is to simply let Window 11 take care of the WiFi adapter driver update. I haven't had any issue after that.
2. DON'T download the "Asus MultiAntenna Service". It is a Hotfix suggested by MyAsus. I found that after installing this so-called "hot fix", my download speed was cut down to half. I don't know what it fixes, but it definitely cause more issue. After uninstalling it, my WiFi speed got back to normal.
3. Not sure if this is cause by Win11 or the laptop, but this laptop CANNOT use the latest Amd software Adrenalin edition downloaded from AMD official website. It can only use the older Radeon Software downloaded by Win11 update. If you download the Amd software Adrenalin edition from AMD, Win 11 will reverse it every time. I can use "roll back" to undo the Win 11 update, but I found that the Amd software Adrenalin edition will cause me not able to change screen brightens. The setting is still adjustable, but the screen is dimmed and cannot be changed. So far there is no solution, so I keep using the older Radeon Software.

easily ~10 hours with light browsing, screen lowered to 60hz refresh and lowered brightness in my experience. no fiddling with settings necessary either, it just works.
I confirm this message as I own laptop as.well

I was able to install the latest Adrenalin drivers by using the safe mode route and uninstalling with Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).

It's not 100% stable though which is probably why Asus isn't up-to-date. I occasionally get a random display driver error (seems to be related to integrated), but haven't had issues in any benchmarks. The current Asus provided drivers are missing the DirectX optimization, so it was worth it for me. It's a decent performance boost.
