Great price for this model. I have only seen it this low once, and I don't believe the price lasted more than 24 hours. I purchased this unit a year ago for home back-up but have only run it for break-in and occasional exercise. The unit is quiet (for a generator) and performs well.

The lower left screw, 10 mm head, on the large side cover may not come out without removing the front cover and holding the nut to prevent it from turning with the screw. If the engine is hard starting then the electric choke wire may need to be plugged back in to the circuit board. The plug is accessed from behind the front cover near the nut for the side cover screw.

I'm looking into the interlock kit now, and already have a 2100w gas-powered inverter generator for keep the fridge and a few lights going. My ultimate goal is to be winter-ready by keeping the 240V circuit to the gas furnace going, where power's really only needed for the igniter, blower, and stat to keep working. And while that one 240V circuit could be powered, I could also flip a few 120V circuits on for the kitchen, and other rooms.

But I don't want a big, thirsty, generator to keep feeding in the event of a long term power outage--whether powering by gasoline or propane. I probably should be investigating how to power a portable generator from our natural gas hookup, but I'm guessing there might be some red tape involved in doing that?
I'm lucky because I have a gas hot water boiler that runs on 120volt. the A/C is a separate system. I just hook up 2 small 2300watt inverters and plug the house in. Then I turn on the circuits that it will support. make sure the fridge in the garage gets power and started, then flip on another circuit with the house fridge. I can run most lights and routers and TVs. I don't have to run cords all over the house and the light switches work.

you might look at your furnace and see if it's 220 volt for the blower, I had gas forced heat w/ AC at another house. the AC circuit for the Compressor was seprate from the circuit that ran the blower on 120 volt. might be worth a look.

It's probably not overkill - I purchased this generator to run an airconditioner through hurricaine Ian in Florida, and it actually had significant trouble starting a 10K btu airconditioner that was well within even the starting watts. (3K starting)
The problem seems to be that even with eco mode off these inverter generators tend to throttle down to save fuel. The generator would not ramp up fast enough to provide the starting watts for the AC , and while the generator would stay running the AC would kick off.
The only way I could get the AC to start was to run a heavy load (I used a hairdryer) that I would turn on, and as soon as I could hear the generator start to labor from the draw of the AC I would switch it off.

I probably should have returned it on account of this, but I did like the other features remote start , etc and much cheaper than a Honda.

I had the same issue. Have some success starting the ac fan on low.

I live in Florida as well. I am considering this model . Would you recommend it ? How loud is it? I live in a townhouse and try to be more respectful to my neighbors. Thank you.
I wouldn't recommend it if you intend on running air conditioners., as it would not start a 10K unit easily. You could possibly get away with 2 6K units.

It's not as quiet as my honda inverter but certainly better than a traditional generator. The remote start is nice as well.

Thank you very much. What's the model of the Honda inverter you have?

Edit: The lower left 10 mm bolt on the large side cover may refuse to come out because the nut on the inside turns as explained here: https://youtu.be/gSceM1tMJ1o

The video also shows how to reattach the electric choke cable if the generator has hard starting issues.

Edit: I performed brief load testing at 58-62F following the recommended gentle break-in procedure.

Loads A and B were two 1500 watt resistive loads which were portable heaters. Load C was a resistive load with a potentiometer which allowed the wattage to be gently increased from 200 watts to 1500 watts.

Adding loads A and B quickly with the eco switch on caused the output voltage to momentarily dip to 66 volts as reported by the onboard meter. Incidentally, the frequency mode was dead always reading F=00.

With eco off and the generator stabilized supporting 3000 watts I gently ramped up the wattage on load C. to see at what point the overload light would flicker and finally trip.

The manual notes that frequent flickering of the overload light is an indication of operation which will cause premature failure of the generator. Data was collected from the onboard data center. Its voltmeter is low count so the reported voltage drop to 66V could be worse. Data Center also provides a visual graph of the total available capacity being utilized. It was slow to register wattage but seemed accurate.

More testing is required but my initial results seem to indicate that igen4500 is a light duty generator capable of supporting little more than 3200 watts continuously on cool days. 75% loading is considered optimal for generators and 75% is displayed on the data center at 3000 watts resitive load. If you intend to run any motors or compressors then it will be wise to measure voltage fluctuation when they kick in. More testing is required but 4500 watt surge may be optimistic. I had to press the red reset button as well as the clear breaker to restore power.

The 224 cc engine is common in this size inverter. For comparison, Briggs and Straton 5000 running watt conventional generator employs a 389 cc engine which has sufficient torque to prevent voltage dips and surge which is more important for protecting equipment from damage than THD. But this comes at the cost of much higher fuel consumption noise weight and bulk. Nevertheless, a conventional is a better choice for long term reliability with heavy inductive loads. By design inverter generators are light duty. The expensive inverter board is easily damaged from heat either from overloading or high ambient temperature.

The remote start-stop worked well in the test. This feature promotes fuel conservation and duty cycling for longer life.

Battery: The included 7ah 12v sealed lead acid battery is easily removed from a dedicated hatch with no tools. It is connected with a pull-apart SAE rubber connector commonly used on battery chargers. This means that you can charge a garden tractor, motorcycle or UPS battery in under two hours from the generator which may also be used to start the generator. For the longest life charge it with a fully automatic 0.5 to 1 amp first.
