You'll get charged the full price + taxes when making the order with a trade-in online. When you go in-store to pick up the new phone and trade in your old phone, they'll refund you the difference and with that, your taxes will also be adjusted according to the final price.

Source: I traded in my Pixel 6 for a Pixel 7 a month ago at Best Buy.

This is only a deal if you have one that's broken. The prices for broken on eBay are almost as much as new through Tracphone or straight talk which give you a higher trade in value.

You can trade in store vs Google has a long wait time . They have to send out trade in box and they take forever to analyze and give back trade in value to your card. BB does it in 2 days.

Try Googling Google Fi, all single stars due to pathetic performance, probably the same Customer Service Scheme there. They tell you to do useless things over and over and then they place you on hold until you either hang up in frustration or the timer hangs up on their side. No resolutions, we just finished spend over 40 hours with customer service and finally with no solutions by Google Fi, have bought new phones and switching carriers.

Nice rant and whilst you maybe right about Gfi service, that's not relevant. Try reading, buying from G store or BB unlocked version doesn't force you into service with Gfi.
