You'll get charged the full price + taxes when making the order with a trade-in online. When you go in-store to pick up the new phone and trade in your old phone, they'll refund you the difference and with that, your taxes will also be adjusted according to the final price.

This is only a deal if you have one that's broken. The prices for broken on eBay are almost as much as new through Tracphone or straight talk which give you a higher trade in value.

Nice rant and whilst you maybe right about Gfi service, that's not relevant. Try reading, buying from G store or BB unlocked version doesn't force you into service with Gfi.
