How is best to transfer the data before drop off my trade-in phone? does anyone know if I can take pixel home and drop off apple xr later to the store?

If it isn't identical then no you can't.
I know this because I went to the trouble of getting a new iPhone SE 3rd Gen from Metro for the sole purpose of trading it in on a Pixel 7 and when going through the Best Buy trade-in process that's when I realized that the Metro iPhone's model number was not the same as T-Mobiles version of the same phone! So I kinda screwed myself on that deal.
