Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

This is Verizon you're talking about, they MIGHT, in the fine print, limit the Promo to only phones purchased through Verizon.
Look at apple and Best Buy for Verizon iPhones. They both give you info on how to trade in your old phone to get either $800 or $1000 credit thru VZ. Y'all are confusing people

How many lines and how much do you pay total per line including access fee before taxes?

ATT existing customer. Not planning to leave ATT. No phone to trade in, just want an iPhone 14.

I'd like a new iPhone, but don't want to be forced to switch to an unlimited plan. A few comments said they previously didn't need to switch plans to get iPhone deals, but the way I'm reading this, it seems I will have to switch. Are these terms for people who trade in old phones with AT&T?

from Terms & Conditions link: Down payment: May be required and depends on a variety of factors. Down payment if required will be either 30% of sales price or a dollar amount currently ranging from $200 to $1,400 (amount subject to change and may be higher). Examples (amounts approximate): $1,099.99 sales price with $0 down is $30.56 per month, with $330 down (30%) is $21.39 per month, or with $600 down is $13.89 per month for 36 months AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up: Price includes monthly smartphone installment payment and a separate additional $6/month AT&T Next Up upgrade feature charge to be upgrade eligible with qualified trade in when 50% of device cost of the financed device is paid off. Upgrade requires a minimum of 30 to 90 days on installment depending on credit and other factors (subject to change), account in good standing, trade-in of financed device in good physical and fully functional condition through the AT&T Next Up trade-in program (excludes trade in program where you receive an instant credit or AT&T promotion card) and purchase of a new eligible smartphone on an eligible installment agreement with qualified wireless service. After upgrade, unbilled installments are waived. Next Up $6 monthly payments do not apply toward financed device cost balance, are non-refundable, and may be canceled at any time, resulting in waiver of right to trade in and upgrade during current installment agreement term. See att.com/next and your Retail Installment Agreement for full details. Service: Eligible postpaid voice and data service is required and extra.

I have an old AT&T family share plan. We use WiFi and never go over the limit (which is low). THe last time I checked, unlimited family plans cost about $25.00/month (plus fees) more than our existing plan, so I don't want to change.

PHAENON -
We have 3 lines. Plan costs $77.00 per month, minus employer's discount of $17.71,
plus $20.00 per line "plan" charge x 3 lines (printed as $40.00 access minus $20.00 discount)
so, $119.29 (then company fees, surcharges, gov't fees & taxes = $141.38 last month)

Phones are paid off, so no other charges.

Disagree. These are 2 different promos (walmart GC & upto $800 VZ trade-in promo) with no link to each other as has been explained many times in thread. They can be stacked on top of each other. Attached is my chat with VZ rep as evidence and I have screenshots stored if needed in future.

Q: Does it matter where you purchase iphone 14 Pro to receive the upto $800 trade-in promo. Like BB, Apple or Walmart
VZ rep: It doesn't matter at all. As long as the device is in working condition and the battery is working well, we can offer the promotional trade in value for the eligible device

Edit: Here is Walmart's AT&T Trade-in promo link (again this is different than $250 trade in GC offered by walmart). The trade-in promo being discussed here is being offered by carrier such as ATT & VZ
https://www.walmart.com/cp/apple-...ns/5116563 [walmart.com]
That link you sent me talks about AT&T promos on Walmart, I'm talking about people trying to do the Walmart GC and then going into Verizon to trade for $800. Here is my chat from Verizon:

VZ: The offers are unique in every channel therefore they cannot be combined. You need to choose what offer you wish to get and where is that promotions offered.

The majority of people are not talking about trading in at WM. They're referring to trading in at ATT or VZ. As it's been mentioned numerous times, people have done this for years. I've even done it with target. I bought an 11 pro max during the holidays when they were offering $300 gift card. THEN I went to Att and traded in my old iphone for the $800 credit. NO PROBLEMS whatsoever
Walmart Trade-Ins are either done at Walmart, mail, or corp store. If you do either of the last two, you will get $250 at most because when Verizon looks your trade-in, they will see the Walmart agreement you made. To get the $800, you you need to have the agreement done at a location that is offering that.

The reason you were able to get the $800 in the past is because THEY USED TO COMBINE THEM because the stores always offered it. It is different now. Believe me, I have done the same thing all the time, but haven't recently because promos have changed. At this point, I cannot make it any clearer. I will come back to this thread in a month and see lots of upset people.

So Best Buy and apple both have it on their sites about trading in at Verizon and have the link to Verizon on their websites. Are you saying They're both lying just to get you to buy from them? When I ordered the phone yesterday Walmart is nowhere on the contract. ATT doesn't ask.. where did you buy the phone from?

As long as the upgrade is done at Best Buy or Verizon then that will qualify for the $800-$1000 promo. They have the info yes, but if you look further into it, it requires you to check out through them.

No they are not lying. If you read the qualifications to get the $800, you need to proceed with the transaction through them because they are offering that promo. I think the confusion comes because they used to it where Walmart, Target, or Sams would offer a GC+Same Trade-In credits as the cell providers. But now it's different. The trade-in fine print even states that you cannot combine other promos/offers, or cannot stack.

The extra trade-in amount is the 'offer' for Best Buy and Apple. Walmart's 'offer' is the gift card.

This back and forth is a bit silly. I think there has been enough claims and counterclaims. Nobody should be shocked if the extra trade-in double-dipping doesn't work. The gift card deal is pretty good by itself but anybody that requires the double-dipping to proceed has been fair warned.

In my case I have a iphone 8 Plus so 'double-dipping will only give me $84 for the phone, while eBay sales are around $150.

Yeah just proceed with caution, and if you don't get the $800, either take the loss or be prepared to fight. But I will feel bad for those folks who traded in phones that will get them $0.

This gets back to what I originally said was the terms aren't clear enough when trading in on phones and are purposely vague. For me, I'll never trade a phone in with hopes of getting something once when the man behind the curtain in Oz tells me if it qualifies 8 weeks down the road. Why can't we take our phones into a store and have them look at them and say well this is worth this amount?

The reason we can't do that is wishful thinking that the carrier will surely take care of the customer that is paying them big money. It took me probably close to 20 hours of my time going to multiple corporate stores and calling and texting/chatting to get a measly $200 from Verizon after buying an ipad m1 with cellular. The deal was Verizon would give you the credit after buying it from Apple. Denied denied denied. I eventually got the money. What bothers me how vague and loose goose all these things are. There's no clear parameters and when you buy from someone else whether it be Apple or Walmart, there's that blame the other person issue. Verizon blamed Apple for my issue of getting a rebate despite it clearly saying even at the time of complaint many months later, the same offer is still on apple site. With this Black Friday deal, it's going to be another YMMV

Anybody on ATT next plan able to upgrade? I get error saying upgrade with restrictions. Telling me to go to store. I am eligible for upgrade and it works on ATT website and Best Buy. Walmart customer service was no help and either was ATT with this issue.
