*Official* Android OS Phone Chat, Questions, & Help Thread -

Yahoo!

Our very own thread to discuss and chat about the OS, ROM's, apps from Android Market, our Android phones, tips & tricks, questions, and help issues. With the different phones out now and to be released from various carriers, I figure we all have a lot in common with the Android OS. We can discuss what we like, need help with, what apps are cool or don't work well, as well as questions and help issues. Given that CSR's from the various carriers may know less than we do, this thread is for all of us so we can help one another.

turn auto retrieve back on.. the problem your having is with notifications.. not with retrieving or storage.. i would also suggest chompsms over handcent.. its always been a more stable program for me as well.. and you can set it to either turn on the screen or not.. i always keep that function off and just have it flash a blue LED light for texts..

what's a good program to notify you for updates on the market for apps you already have?

I just use the market and click on "my downloads." However, if it's not broke, don't fix it!

it will notify you automatically.. sometimes it might take a couple days but unless a program is glitchy and i want a more stable version it never really bothered me if it was a day late or so

myTouch automatically notifies you. I think the apps themselves go out and check. If you have disabled them from going out to the internet, then you won't get those notifications.

Did you do a test notification from handcent settings?

While it's all preference, my testing found chomp to be more stable and user friendly. That being said, I rarely MMS so I didn't need that feature.

I'd recommend doing the test notification, doublechecking all of your settings and reinstalling if needed.
Can chomp handle MMS at all? I don't get them everyday, but often enough, so I chose Handcent over chomp.

OK, I'll try turning auto retrieve back on. If Handcent is still buggy I'll try reinstall. If THAT doesn't help I may need to go with chomp.

Thanks guys!

Updating 20 apps once a week is getting irritating though. I wish someone would come out with an app that auto-updates all the apps.

once the native app retrieves the MMS message then chomp will show it.. and until it downloads chomp will just link you to the native app...

its gonna be this way for a lil while.. the g1 and mytouch are running on android 1.6, the hero and moto cliq are on android 1.5 and on friday the droid comes out and its running 2.0 so all the devs are trying to update their programs to catch up on the new releases.. it looks like hero and moto cliq are gonna skip 1.6 and go right to 2.0 which will be good.. the mytouch should be able to get 2.0 fairly quickly.. the G1 is the only one that will have issues since its built in memory is smaller than the rest and android 2.0 is too big for the partitioned amount of memory on the G1.. google and HTC are still trying to figure it out though..

I haven't done anything like this to my phone yet for fear of it not being stable. I need the phone to work flawlessly for my job. I suppose i could try it when the time comes.

they keep working on it until its fully stable.. there is one called xROM that is faster and uses less battery than any other android release i've ever seen and it was fully stable.. right now i'm running the moto blur software.. its stable but not fully functional.. no bt, wifi, or vibrating.. and a few other quirks but it still runs ok.. the cyonagen roms are fully stable as well.. they are almost identical to the official releases.. thats why i think he got a C&C letter.. his are like the official ones but with the hacks for wifi tethering and other stuff like that

damn man you're like the android genius bar. that xROM sounds pretty cool. honestly, i wish my phone was a little more stable right now. When I'm using pandora and my moto S9's and i get a call my phone gets stuck on sideways and then the home screen takes forever and sometimes pandora wont work again until i restart the phone or quit. Ugh.. its just a mess sometimes with the stereo bluetooth. The mp3 player used to make my g1 reboot itself instead of switching back to the music from a call, the phone would just reboot. any idea why this happens?
