10% off on Target gc means only 5% additional % off for redcard holders.

If you have 5% additional statement credit thru Chase Freedom - PayPal route, you get effective 4.5% extra on top of this discounted gc deal making it 14.5% off, or 9.5% on top of red card discount.

Depending on how much you shop at Target annually and your personal cash flow priorities vs need to save the extra % off, you can decide whether to block money in the gc.

If you decide to get in on this deal but also have the red card, you can prioritize to use red card for smaller transactions where red card can get you free shipping. You can select to use the discounted gc for when you're doing store pick up, or 35$+ shipping orders wherein you'd not have shipping charges to deal with anyway.

Hope it helps.

Just a PSA: if you buy the gift card and load it into your target account wallet, make sure you have 2FA for your account login. I received a $300 GC as a gift and realized as soon as I loaded it in a day someone across the country used my login to buy items instore. Target didn't help when I filed a complaint basically telling me to file a police report before they could do anything. Gift cards are harder to chase down of course compared to credit card. It can happen at any store but target's payment and security sucked up until few months ago when they added 2FA.

Edit: to enable 2FA, go to target.com and into your account settings. You can find information on how to enable it here - If you go to target.com and in the account settings, you'll find an option to set email/phone 2FA. More instructions are here https://security.target.com/FAQs#...20account?

Target recently changed their system to allow you to use a partial amount of a gift card on a purchase, so there's no need to buy multiple small quantities for yourself. I pay for most of the transaction with a gift card and then just a few cents with my Red Card to still get free shipping.

Was tempted but as a RedCard user, can't justify going for this - for ~5% gain (about $25),
- I'd locking up $500 for the foreseeable future,
- losing any credit card warranty if I wanted to instead use another CC (depending on purchase)
- losing free shipping on lower priced items

So, maybe makes sense for a smaller GC value - why do the full 500? Thinking …
If you put in little more effort to understand. Its unlikely that you only have target redcard. Its 10% + whatever other creditcard cashback you have 1-5% using paypal, discover cc. So you can get almost 14.5% off. So dont have to just limit the comparison to 5/10%. Cc warranty is obsolete already for most

Trying to use Apple Pay (tied to discover card), it's given me a blue exclamation point error and won't complete the transaction. Doesn't say what the error is…

How to check it out after saving the offer? Stupid web design.
Checkout never works for me in desktop Firefox. Get everything set and finish in the Target app on your phone, if you prefer the desktop experience in general.

So I'm no math wiz, but if I
1. buy the GC at 10% off, and then
2. buy stuff and pay with the GC, not the redcard, so I don't get my usual 5% off ...

Didn't I only end up saving 5%, like usual with the redcard?

I'm not seeing 2FA option in settings?

Yes. Unless you factor in credit card benefits from using another card to buy the gift cards.
