I bought this last time it went on sale near this price from this seller. It was clearly at least an open box item, had some wear on it. Several other reviews say the same thing. Not a bad price for what it is, just know what you may be getting.
Mine was the same. It was new-ish and worked but not 100% new.
If they send you something open customer service might offer a partial refund. That's not cool if it's listed as new and comes opened.

Good deal for these bulbs. Rarely on sale. I only need one bulb, though.

Can anyone tell me what this series of overpriced LED lights have compared to the mountain of more inexpensive light systems that also work seamlessly with any home automation system? Genuinely curious. These are like the Bose of lights.

product overview from someone who owns 5 of these bulbs across a computer and a TV:

- the included bridge is needed if you don't already have a Hue bridge. It's the 'brain' that all the lights connect to. if you already have a v2 Hue bridge, it's an extra thing you don't need. if you have a v1 bridge, this upgrade allows the bulbs to sync faster and will be a necessary replacement

- the lights can always be used with the Hue smartphone app to set static RGB background colors

- there is Hue Sync app you can install -- I've only used it on Windows, but it works well and doesn't affect system performance in gaming. this app is what allows you to sync music or video content

- the result of the sync with movies/games really depends on the content. this doesn't take long to figure out with a little testing. at best, it's a really great addition. at worst, I just use the lights as static bias lighting to reduce eye fatigue

- in case you're wondering, these Play lights sync faster than their normal Hue bulbs so there is very little delay

hope this helps, I highly recommend the product (no experience with the seller)

For some reason it doesn't get detected with my existing hue bridge any idea? I feel these are used

Mine wouldn't either. These are the first Hue lights in the 30+ that I own that my bridge wouldn't find on a regular search. I had to type in the serial number off of the paperwork that came with them. Once I did that though, they were able to connect to my bridge.

Reliability and consistency. I've owned numerous Hue lights for at least 5+ years and they are just as reliable as day one. I haven't personally had any lights drop off or disconnect.
Best shades and colours. They have the richest "Hues" and the newest bulbs have some of the nicest scenes.

Integration and compatibility. There are many dozens of apps that work with Hue and allow for syncing to unique music/scenes/routines.

Then what is the bridge for?

To host all of your lights off of your network and declutter your wifi.

It also allows for control outside of the the home (when not using your local network).

99.9% sure that's the only way. I don't believe there is any way to make a Hue brand do the syncing without the box

There is. You'd just need to route it to via your PC and use the Free Hue PC App.

It's a bit more work, but it will work for free instead of forking over the $200 for a sync box.

I use this method while gaming at the same time. Only once have I seen it hit my frame rate. It's terrific to enhance the general immersion in a game.

I agree on pricing of the lights but the money paid goes towards better sync with what's on the screen I believe. Better connectivity and algorithm to make it seamless vs crappie lights that don't refresh fast enough.

Is the deal dead now? When I try and add to cart, it just brings me to an empty cart...
