- the included bridge is needed if you don't already have a Hue bridge. It's the 'brain' that all the lights connect to. if you already have a v2 Hue bridge, it's an extra thing you don't need. if you have a v1 bridge, this upgrade allows the bulbs to sync faster and will be a necessary replacement
- the lights can always be used with the Hue smartphone app to set static RGB background colors
- there is Hue Sync app you can install -- I've only used it on Windows, but it works well and doesn't affect system performance in gaming. this app is what allows you to sync music or video content
- the result of the sync with movies/games really depends on the content. this doesn't take long to figure out with a little testing. at best, it's a really great addition. at worst, I just use the lights as static bias lighting to reduce eye fatigue
- in case you're wondering, these Play lights sync faster than their normal Hue bulbs so there is very little delay
hope this helps, I highly recommend the product (no experience with the seller)
Reliability and consistency. I've owned numerous Hue lights for at least 5+ years and they are just as reliable as day one. I haven't personally had any lights drop off or disconnect.
Best shades and colours. They have the richest "Hues" and the newest bulbs have some of the nicest scenes.
Integration and compatibility. There are many dozens of apps that work with Hue and allow for syncing to unique music/scenes/routines.
To host all of your lights off of your network and declutter your wifi.
It also allows for control outside of the the home (when not using your local network).

There is. You'd just need to route it to via your PC and use the Free Hue PC App.
It's a bit more work, but it will work for free instead of forking over the $200 for a sync box.
