They ensure someone keeps giving them access to all their private data, which the user agreement when you set up the device guarantees. Your data is worth a small fortune. Google didn't become a goliath selling phones.

interesting the Pixel 6a is not on the trade-in list. Many of us have the Pixel 6a on the way from other trade in deals that made if nearly free in the past few days.

In the same boat here.
P6 is not a phone I enjoyed - dim screen, awkward volume/power buttons location, and mediocre battery life. None of these seem to change with P7.
I've been using my phone for just a few days with this deal, so not a long term review or anything - but at least with screen brightness, P6 is 843 nits vs P7 at 1400 nits. I can finally use my phone on a sunny day. Also to compare - the regular iphone 14 gets to 1200 nits, S22 can do 1300 nits (the Pro Max and Ultra can do around 2000, I believe).

Can I buy a pixel 6 off amazon and do the trade?

Would the "(Verizon) Google - Pixel 6 - 128GB - Stormy Black - GA02300-US (Renewed)" work?

That's kind of my thought?
I upgraded from the 3a XL to the 6 after the most recent OS version just destroyed the 3a (slowness, short battery) but the 6 has given me a handful of problems with the benefit being the faster speeds again.

It sounds like the battery, screen and cameras are minimal changes if any, and the big change is with the chip inside.. I don't know how noticeable that is in day to day usage though?
I'd happily swap it out to have the new model if it meant just dropping the $60, but having to pay the full amount up front, mail the 6 in and hope it gets approved/validated in the condition I sent it in, just seems like a hassle.

Maybe it makes more sense if you have a promo code like some people here?

This total price listed is not accurate. Trade in value 479 gets applied after the tax so it's (499+tax) 539.17-479= $60.17
Or probably trade in values deals in general should mention whichever states the tax is not applicable
Sure, but that's normal. You are more or less buying the phone at the list price, then getting money back on the trade-in value.

Just think of it as a mail-in rebate, but with a physical device as the rebate, which I'm guessing is pre-applied?

I sent my code to a few people and one person said they used it with no issues, but the next person said it didn't go through, so it may be a one time use code (which is a little weird, since it's supposed to be used up to 10 times for friends)

Read further in the terms and conditions and it looks like it's for US based customers/addresses.
I think it may be that you can send out 10 codes but first one from those 10 people to use it is valid. Rest are out of luck

Sucks cause someone here sent me a code but doesn't work.

Google still has live support who resolved my issue. Thumbs up.

As long as it works and has no damage it should be accepted by Google.

Does prepaid phone works if still locked with one carrier?
Yes, I just confirmed with the customer support. Bought iPhone 11 prepaid from straight talk for trading.

Annoying that 256GB for 256GB is $80 more than 128GB for 128GB. Have a $60 credit to use, so probably will do it anyway, but still...
Incredibly so. It's like I've been punished for buying the higher-end phone.

Traded in my Pixel 5 128GB for a Pixel 7 256GB.

Pixel 7 @ $599 + NY Taxes @ $51.66 - $400 upon return of my immaculate Pixel 5 is approximately $250. Not too shabby!

Definitely something nefarious involved. If the product is free, the product is you.

But how does trading in a Pixel 6 to get a Pixel 7 for just the cost of tax make any sense? They have access to your data already with the Pixel 6.
I think they want to gain market share is the big deal, apple / google / facebook etc all are going to monetize your data ( mostly aggregated though ).

My guess is a bigger thing for google imho to say "we sold xxxx units of the new pixel 7 devices" a couple points added to their stock price on a mention they sold more phones with this generation than ever before is worth taking a dive on a lot of these devices. Plus with weird accounting of trade ins I'm sure they have done the math.
