Guys, only buy if you REALLY need one right now. Otherwise keep in mind that 923+ has been announced and is coming out soon followed by smaller models.

Most people are buying the 920+ because of the 923+ release. The specs of the 923+ are very underwhelming to most Plex users.

I upgraded my 220J to the 220+ a few months ago and couldn't be happier with Plex. Runs well and I have a TON of media on it, Videos, Photos and music

It sounds like the 923+ won't run Plex.

Real question, how and why are these things not 10GbE yet?

Anyone running a whitebox small form factor with 10GbE?
This is one of the top complaints of these. I believe I read you can do a USB3 -> 2.5gbe adapter on some Synologies though, if you need a little extra speed.

I'm interested as I have been using a Terramaster F-210 and I have heard the software for the Synology is much better.

I've tried to research the difference between the J and + models, but am unable to find it. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, it's also Ryzen, so no Plex transcoding.

The Synology OS, and add-in infrastructure/community is indeed excellent.

Western Digital store and Amazon have WD Red Plus on sale. Picked up 2 10 TB drives for $160 each. 8TB are $130 Each.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QQX2...UTF8&psc=1
I believe 128 vs 256 cache. Just an fyi there is a diff between the 8tb drives on amazon vs on WD website. (Or there was at least).

Yes. Synology has discontinued their Intel Quicksync line....which is required for hardware transcoding with Plex. Synology effectively snubbed Plex users.
What do you mean? This model is great for Plex.

He's referring to the new Synology lineup, not these models.

I had been hoping to get the 920+, but just pulled the trigger on the 220+. Considering I've never had my own NAS, the 220+ will probably be fine for my needs.

This one uses 2.5 inch drives.
Well being a novice with NAS, I do not know if that is a good or bad thing?

Can you start with 1 drive or is 2 the minimum?

You can have one drive if it's just stuff you don't care about losing if that drive fails. For example, streaming media you have disc back-up copies of, etc

Yes, you can start with a single drive and add more later.
