Best Buy does not take trade-ins of phones that benefit from the same promo. Meaning, you can't trade a S21 FE/S22 (any)/ZFlip 4/Z Fold 4 towards a different phone in that same group.

You can't trade a S21 FE for anything
You can't trade a S22 for a S22+ or Ultra
You can't trade a S22 for a Z Flip/Z Fold 4

I haven't done it myself, but I think it should be okay. I traded many phones unactivated at bestbuy before with no problem.

I can get fold 4 for $711.12 w/ trade in s21 fe which costs $240 if i buy from here. Total it costs less than $1000. However, im not sure if i can buy from here since the term says i needed to activate the phone in 60 days if i didnt buy it full price or they will chage back.

FYI for those who want to buy this phone and use the $100 annual Boost plan. Boost intended their phone deals to be combined with a $30 per month plan. The $100 plan was meant for BYOD customers. They wanted to satisfy both customer group at once - the free phone group who pays on plan fees (competing with Metro and Cricket), and the BYOD group who wants absolute cheap plan prices (competing with Red Pocket, Mint, and a few others).

The implication is a very strange system. On my $100 annual plan, I cannot add my Boost locked phone onto my service account. An IMEI not owned by me is already registered when I activated the service plan. I cannot switch the IMEI online. Their call center agents also couldn't switch the IMEI (it gives them an error on their end, multiple agents). The service works fine since the SIM can be inserted into any Boost locked phone without updating the IMEI on their system.

Per FCC rule they have to provide a carrier unlock code with 12 months of service (have not tested because it has not been 12 months for me). But I fully expect them to give me some trouble and deny my claim that I've used the device for 12 months on their network. I expect like usual, a complain to social media and/or a government agency will prod them to provide the code to avoid trouble rather than as a standard procedure.
