Only the high end is launching for team red with team green having just done so. This is mid range and there's no Indication of seeing the next gen mid range before February/March by either manufacturer. Prices could continue to fall, but not because of pressure by their replacements because that's months away.

People who are on the perpetual "prices will drop when X releases in a few months" PC component train don't seem to have been around for very many PC component release cycles. The 6650, 6700 and 6800XT are great values at their performance tiers. Happens every cycle yet there's a group of people who always preach waiting to buy. We probably won't see huge drops until the midrange drops next year and even then these cards will still be in demand since they are good values.

Good deal. although 6700xt performs better than 3070 in many games but ray tracing is just awful. so if you don't use ray tracing go for it.

You're going to be waiting 2 years at the minimum. Only way the 4090 will drop in price is the 5090 being released as AMD has no answer for the 4090. The 7090 XTX is more a 4080 killer. Notice how the 4090 sells out faster than the 4080?

Depends on the game you want to play. The RT gulf is bigger with some titles and smaller in others. For my son, it's the 3060Ti as he's able to get 40K60 on FFXIV, but the 6700XT can't do it on max settings as Nvidia DX11 still better than AMD's even with the latest driver.

The problem is trying to find a used 3080 that hasn't been abused by mining. Several posters on various forums now getting bad used cards from mining.

What's the difference between this and the same exactly thing but with "core" in the name. I saw the manuals for both and everything is word for word except the model number. Even the weight.

Check the ports on the rear as sometimes they sell one with less ports. Also, make sure it's a 6700XT not a plain 6700 which is too neutered and performs closer to the 6600XT.
It's probably just marketing to protect other stores from having to price match as they can claim it's a "different model"

Thanks for the response. Looks like everything is the same, ports included, excwpt the launch date of the one I bought is July vs March. Also the upc number.

While any used card will be hit-or-miss, the GDDR6X used by higher end RTX 3000 cards is especially prone to overheating from mining. I came across a lot of articles about this exact issue when mining was dying off this past summer. Some cards stopped working entirely due to bad VRAM.

Also note that warranties for second-hand GPUs vary significantly between vendors. Given that the RX 6800 XT has been on sale for just above $500 new with full warranty, I don't think a used RTX 3080 is a good choice for many people unless buying from a friend etc.

What about choosing the ones with LHR?

Aren't those meant to stop miners from running 24/7 and have it meant to be used as a normal gaming card

It's great to hear from someone using it other than gaming. The Logical Increments guide to video editing [logicalincrements.com] recommends a 5700XT for a Professional build or a 3060Ti for DaVinci Resolve.

Do you have the free version?

I have a 5900X CPU plus NVIDIA 1660 Super (bought used in Nov 2020 to hold me over). I think the 5700XT is the minimum I'd want to upgrade to and this is the best price I've seen, though I just don't think it would make that big a difference for me. I do mostly photo editing (Capture One) and only a little video work (DaVinci Resolve free).


In conclusion, you might get the performance you want by paying for software, rather than improving your hardware?

UPDATE: This site: https://teckers.com/why-is-davinci-resolve-free/ says the free version offers "GPU acceleration for playback, but not for rendering", and you DID see a big improvement over your 5500XT, so that does indicate that it's using the GPU at least somewhat. In many workflows, you could accept a slower render time (walk away and get coffee) if the editing process is smooth.
