Target has the EcoTank ET-2803 for sale at 229.99 (normally 279.99), with an additional $30 gift card bonus with purchase. Online only.

Found this after I saw a separate sale for the ET-2400 for sale at $179.99. Despite the $50 difference in price, with the additional gift card, there's only a $20 net difference (+ the additional $1.50 off from the RedCard 5%). The two models are largely the same, the 2800 series is older and the 2400 is new this year, with the only difference being the availability of a display screen on the 2800 series for managing various settings, which may be handy to have.

The EcoTank series is compatible with sublimation printing with some simple conversion steps (not Epson approved, so probably not compatible with the warranty). The one "limitation" here is the print size, as a large format printer would allow for bigger projects, but this would be great for getting started. Easy to find guides online and sublimation ink for the Epson series.

There's been some previous threads regarding the replacement ink maintenance pad—when these printers reach "end of life" with the purge pad inside, the software will lock the printer from further use—this is also fixable without shipping and shelling out to Epson, steps can be found if you Google search ways to reset the counter and then the pads themselves are purchasable through eBay and other sources—from some brief investigation, the pad on the 2800 series seems virtually identical to the 2700 series (the previous iteration).

Expired Update: Also available from Dell for $199.99, so no gift card deal but same net price minus RedCard:

Thank you for breaking down the model differences and purge pad details in your post. I hadn't looked too deep into this printer yet and you answered pretty much all of my questions off the bat! Thanks OP!

Looks like Dell's sale ended, that's too bad… I'll remove it.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2400 and the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 are very similar all-in-one inkjet supertank printers. They're nearly identical in features; the only difference is that the ET-2800 has a better display panel, making it easier to navigate the settings menu. The ET-2400's scanner picks up finer details and produces higher-quality scans; however, it also boosts the contrast and saturation more, which you may or may not like, depending on whether accuracy is important to you.

I strongly suggest searching for "eco tank scam" on youtube before buying.

These are still designed to fail.

thanks for mentioning that.
it surprise me that they have those other sensors that prevent this for longer term use....

Financially, they used this to create a new selling point without impacting their profit on business is smart. But bad for the customers.

I will mention—the reason I note the ability to buy the purge materials to replace is because there is plenty of 3rd party software to combat the issue with the sensor locking out, and so this is largely a non-issue. Scummy of Epson, but still easily fixable.

ET-2400 is also available at bestbuy for 179.99, I bought it there because I usually get best buy's extended warranty with printers.

Thanks, I'll continue to remain Brother printers all the way. Unless they ever get the "HP Disease" of screwing customers that apparently Epson has caught.

I hate all printers with a passion and Brother Laser is the printer I hate the least.

So many issues with clogged nozzles/print heads on all the Canon, HP, Epson inkjets I owned over the years.

I still have 2 inkjets in the garage waiting for the e-waste pile. If I MUST own a printer, Brother laser from here on out.
