I own the TSR-700. I believe this model has the same issue with Yamaha choosing 3 - 24gbps HDMI lanes vs 1 40gbps lane. This means that 4k @ 120hz WITH HDR will never work on this device. I am going through the process now to get a board repair just to get 4k @ 120hz without HDR. Even with the board repair, they are not changing the chipset to allow the advertised 4k/120/HDR. Tempted. Need the stereo guys to debate in thread before pulling the trigger. Might be nice to have for the LG OLED with VRR support by not knowing when the firmware update is coming is bumming me out.

that software has been talked about for a very long time, a company has never given any type of date timeline for it to be pushed.

I bought the 2008 version of this for my kids playroom back then. Hopefully Yamaha still builds them like the one I have, as it still works perfectly.

In for one to replace my 2012 Onkyo with intermittent HDMI issues. Thanks! Will deal with the mother board upgrade if it is needed.

Someone posted a similar Yamaha receiver on here today. I just bought the tsr700 which is a rx v6a so same line of reciever. I have had nothing but problems with HDMI switching and dropping video signals. Can rarely get it to handshake with my TV. It's been a total nightmare.

Ughhh. I've been eyeing this particular receiver for about 2 years now. Been waiting for a sale and it just never seemed worth it as I solely have been wanting earc to rid myself of multiple remotes. I've gotten over it but I just had to pull the trigger on one at this price. Thanks for the post!

Interesting. That's unfortunate. It does say that the models produced after 2021 are unaffected by the issue. I did notice that this model is rx-v4abl (used to be rx-v4a) so hopefully these are the post 2021 versions.

My understanding is the post summer 2020 models will have the fix for 4k/120 to work but 4k/120 with HDR will not do not due to the lack of 40gbps chipset. It's a challenge to find accurate information on this but I'd reach out to the manufacturer if that's a deal breaker.

The denon at Costco is a better deal at regular price and best when on sale. Yamaha screwed 2.1 up badly and my last attempt at using a 2000 dollar receiver from them a year ago was DOA out of the box. I ended up with a marantz 6015 and the free adapter for 4k 120hz. Love the sound quality.

I have a few Yamahas from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s; all work great.
