The RAM is soldered in but 16GB is plenty for most people. At this price, you would only expect to get 4 or 8GB.
The SSD is an M.2 and is upgradeable but note that it is SATA, not NVME. In addition, there is a hatch on the bottom side that opens to a bay to add another SATA M.2 SSD.

I bought the 15" last month for $300 new. Works perfect. No issues with screen whatsoever. Incredible deal. Change the TDP in BIOS (watch youtube ETA Prime vid) and it scores a solid ~1100 single core, ~4400 multicore in geekbench. It will handle light gaming 1080p low/medium or 900p high and music production no problem.
The 15" doesn't charge via USB-C and I'm not sure if the HDMI is 1.4 or 2.0 but it looks fine watching movies on my 55" tv.
The speakers are decent. The 1MP webcam is bad but you can't beat this deal. Updated to Win11 free no problem. Just do all the Win10 updates first then get the Installation Assistant off microsoft.com.

For the Gateway from Walmart, anyone know how it impacts the return policy if, say, you format and install Linux? Is there a "system restore" you can do to take it back to OOTB before returning?
You might try to disconnect the main battery and plug it back again and see if after that it will boot up. It happened to mine once and after I did it have been working with no more issues.
I tried that, and it didn't work. I even tried to run it without an internal battery, and it wouldn't come up. Did you try to drain it first or do anything else special? I'm running out of ideas.

Sorry, No, Just Disconnected the main battery and after that start to work again.
Surprised. Seems to be working well after a couple months for the seniors I got this for. We did get a 3 year warranty on it though which now appears to be a very good call.
I got an extra for $250 but I can't find a use for it in family, and given some of the issues I probably wouldn't want to keep this without a warranty. Works very fast for email/browser. Did not try more intensive things.

Are you sure the 15" doesn't charge via usb-c? Someone else said theirs did in the thread where it was sold. What type of usb-c charger did you plug into the laptop? Specifically which wattages and volt/amp outputs does it support? It's entirely possible the charger you used just doesn't support the right output for the PC to be willing to use it.
