The RAM is soldered in but 16GB is plenty for most people. At this price, you would only expect to get 4 or 8GB.
The SSD is an M.2 and is upgradeable but note that it is SATA, not NVME. In addition, there is a hatch on the bottom side that opens to a bay to add another SATA M.2 SSD.

At this price point, you're going to get a bottom model with an i3 and 8GB of ram and a crappy screen from HP or any other manufacturer, probably with the same build quality as this. This looks like a great deal for someone looking for a laptop under $300.
Are you sure the 15" doesn't charge via usb-c? Someone else said theirs did in the thread where it was sold. What type of usb-c charger did you plug into the laptop? Specifically which wattages and volt/amp outputs does it support? It's entirely possible the charger you used just doesn't support the right output for the PC to be willing to use it.
I guess I don't have the right charger for it then. Oh well.
So tempting at this price, but so many problems with the screen.
Most warranties require you to deal with the OEM first, and Gateway seems to be even more useless than most companies' warranty departments. I don't travel a lot but I do want to be able to take it places without worrying about the screen frame breaking.
Still on the lookout for a 13.3-14" with either 16 GB of RAM or, at least, non-soldered/empty slot.
My first desktop that wasn't a hand-me-down from a neighbor was a Gateway 2000. I still have the scratchy yellow foam wrist rest and we have something stored in the cow box in the garage. How the mighty have fallen...
tempted to get this for the wife who just needs something to run Remote Desktop occasionally on the road.
What sort of screen issues are we talking about?

I sure wish I could buy this, but I just can't take the chance with so many bad reviews & experiences w/ Gateway service. Dang, such good specs under $300.

Please LMK before the Staples return window closes for me. Curretly, the Target one has a fan that runs more often and louder than the Staples one. Which gets annoying. I am thinking of keeping the Staples one due to the fan noise.

Heat is the enemy for electronics and computers. This cheap, build-quality Gateway is only suitable for processors with less than 10W TDP. The Core i5-1135G7 is rated at 28W TDP max, which easily cause failures, so you can expect the plastic-case to start melting soon or fall apart.
This laptop is only good for resell on eBay, not for personal use.
got it a few days back... updated to Win 11 easily ....
it is pretty fast ...
Charges through the USB C Port.
Supports USB C for Video out...
i am using a USB C hub : hub plugged into 2 HDMI (1080p) monitors, 100w charger plugged into the hub ... USB C cable into Laptop.... the only issue I am facing is that the monitors blank out and then come back frequently ...
I was suggested that the USB C port does not have strong enough HW to support 2 video outs ... And one option is to try and see updated drivers. Which I see on the Gateway website .. I will check them to this weekend ...
if the problem persists... i will have to return the laptop ....
But if you are using only 1 monitor OR no monitor at all.. then this is a gr8 laptop (as of now), snappy, quite, light, stylish ..

Purchasing a $60, 3 years warranty seems pricey on a $280 laptop.
