The RAM is soldered in but 16GB is plenty for most people. At this price, you would only expect to get 4 or 8GB.

The SSD is an M.2 and is upgradeable but note that it is SATA, not NVME. In addition, there is a hatch on the bottom side that opens to a bay to add another SATA M.2 SSD.

Ordered the 15.6' version last time it was on sale. I had my doubts based on people's comments, but this thing is FAST, and the screen is really nice for the price. Runs WoW classic nicely :p

This is a great deal, glad to see it back, but I wish they'd make the 15.6" version $300 again. I don't think I would ever buy a laptop without a number pad, it's just too crucial for any sort of work with an excel table and numbers/math
They make portable keypads that connect via USB for like ten bucks.

And that would be wonderful if I was using it on a desk, but 99% of my laptop use is on a bed, the keypad needs to be built into the frame for stability and access. I'm guessing those $10 attachments don't have some custom thing to lock onto the laptop frame

These again? Another product where they put a good cpu in something, and cut back on everything else.

Same lappie was being sold for $129 with a snapdragon 850 cpu, and 4gb of ram, so that's about what the rest of the machine costs.

Screen is okay. Keyboard and trackpad are both terrible. Lots of flex. Weirdest thing was, I decided to keep it without using it as a laptop, just a streaming box. Streaming to the 14" screen went great. As soon as I plugged it into a tv with an hdmi cable, 4k youtube videos started dropping about 45% of the frames. Not sure how they could have screwed that up, unless the HDMI port was defective?

Wired ethernet, no wifi involved.

So that went back. If you don't mind a dim, mediocre screen, terrible chicklet keyboard and a track pad that 'crunches' when you try to press it...

Will this be good as a plex server for remote steaming 1080/4k for home?

The HDMI is only 1.4 so only 30fps 4k.

I bought it and it's been working great so far. The keyboard feels great, it supports Windows 11, and it's great for opening and playing quickly and then switching to work with ease. But it can't read my finger, it should be better

So tempting at this price, but so many problems with the screen.

Most warranties require you to deal with the OEM first, and Gateway seems to be even more useless than most companies' warranty departments. I don't travel a lot but I do want to be able to take it places without worrying about the screen frame breaking.

Still on the lookout for a 13.3-14" with either 16 GB of RAM or, at least, non-soldered/empty slot.

My first desktop that wasn't a hand-me-down from a neighbor was a Gateway 2000. I still have the scratchy yellow foam wrist rest and we have something stored in the cow box in the garage. How the mighty have fallen...
I bought one of these from Walmart months ago. The screen went bad with minimal use. Then the thing wouldn't boot past bios screen. After making me pay to send it to them (gateway) the first time, they provided a label the second time and then sent me a new unit after, I assume, failing to fix it.

I got the staples $250 deal. If I didn't i might have grabbed this. Better in every aspect for $30 more. I didn't open the laptop yet. Maybe i can return it. 🤔

You have 14 days, NOT including weekends and Holidays.

I have a Staples, a Target and now...maybe one of these to compare soon.

The Target on has a louder fan than the Staples one. So I am leaning towards the Staples one as of now.

got it a few days back... updated to Win 11 easily ....

if the problem persists... i will have to return the laptop ....

But if you are using only 1 monitor OR no monitor at all.. then this is a gr8 laptop (as of now), snappy, quite, light, stylish ..
Do let me know if you figure out how to use the USB-C for two monitors.

Also, does the fan kick on loudly during use? How is the audio from such a small laptop?

I bought one of these a few months ago. Gr8 specs for the price. But, the build quality isn't too gr8. Feels heavy for a 14". My screen already has bleeding on three of the four corners. I can't complain too much since the price is good. I love the usb-c charging.

it is not loud, but noticeable.

Thanks for the reply. I like my laptops to be silent unless processing heavy loads of stress.
