Xbox One S also won't play about 1/3 of the 4k UHD Blu-rays that I own. It just throws an error. Panasonic has no problem with the same discs.
This comment always comes up with these high end 4K player deals. There's a lot that benefit a home theater nut with a good sound system and top end flagship TV while an Xbox One S won't push that higher end picture and sound. It's like saying why buy a Ferrari/Lambo when you can get a Porsche or a SUV that can get you to places.
Dolby Vision - this is the high selling point
HCX
Studio Master Sound
HLG

Overall higher bitrate with much better PQ paired with the latest TV technologies. Suppose you want the best PQ. It's a no-brainer.

Like upgrading a display, downgrading you still have to buy the whole display, if that's not the case please tell?

"I only own the Panasonic 820( connected to and LG G1) and an older UB900( connected to a Sony Z9D)"
That is present tense, not past tense, went by what YOU just said.

Regardless you still bought TWO expensive players instead of the inexpensive LG player! 🤔

Well that's not how you put it earlier but I like this new one better.

Me and all the people I know(which is a lot) NONE can buy(upgrade) their current display for "$200-$250"!

As I mentioned earlier from personal comparison IMO no matter what display you have(or upgrade/downgrade) you will get a better PQ with Panasonic than the other players with all 3 disc formats!!

Especially if you can get the 420 for $150, which is even less!!! 👍🏻
We were talking about the difference in price.....you used a few examples
I rest my case there

You dont know anyone that has a $500-700 LED television than?
Ok..that surprises me since you stated you have experience with the " majority of Best Buy employees"
Again..you dont know all the panels I own or all the players I have....nod
Not sure why you think I have listed all that I own...

Any deals on an HD DVD player?
Not sure why this is downposted so much, it's actually hilarious and comical for those that know the history of the format.

Would playing a 4k BRD on this be superior to playing a remux via Plex on a Dolby Vision capable TV?

Great player. Hasn't it been much less expensive before though?

I bought this a few weeks ago to move some of my large digital collection to physical for the higher quality improvement. It's probably been 10 years since I watched something on physical media… wow do the Panasonic menus look the same from my Blu-ray player 10 years ago, it's really annoying as someone who bought the disc that I get berated that Piracy is a Crime and man does it take some time to get to the first scene of the movie from putting in the disk.
I get reminded why I switched to digital, for 95% of the movies I own, convenience will trump fidelity.

On top of this I did buy a PC drive to backup the films to Plex, so I could skip the annoying parts of the unit.

You should sell it, they hold their resale value pretty well.
I've been keeping my eye open for a good one used for around $275,
I would upgrade my 420 for $275 in a heartbeat!

Keep hoping someone I know comes to your opinion after buying but either they follow the better deal and buy the 420 or they find the 820 is well worth it and keep it. 😡

I bought mine as an 'Open Box - Fair' for $289. I was worried but figured I could return it. Had everything included in the box, even the plastic still on the device, just the box looked like shit.

No luck here but I only check periodically but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Even better for you, you could easily make all or most of your money back!
You will make someone's day so a win-win!

Found the 420 at the flea market for $40. Definitely getting my money's worth. Those menus still stunned me with how crappy they look lol.

I was actually looking at it before you posted the newer lower price of $321.18. After placing the order for around $351 with tax included, the price went back up to $397.99. Seems several people saw the lower price and placed an order like myself and Amazon raised the price. Will be delivered tomorrow.

It's not. The difference between the DV and HDR 10 is pretty negligible. My buddy worked in the film industry for over 35 years mastering films for big studios like paramount, universal, etc. Asked him to show me the difference on his own studio quality equipment and it wasn't night and day difference at all. A difference yes, but very slight. Save your money.

I can tell a noticible difference on my OLED playing the same movie on DV and HDR10. I much prefer DV.
If in your mind you see a significant difference then for you it's worth it but I see about the same difference as the guy in the film industry referenced above.

Yup and apparently a few minutes later it's gone.
So yes technically it goes lower, just need a lot of luck on getting it.
