Well, the Ticonn get 87% 5&4 star reviews (with a "D" rating on Fakespot), and these Irwin ones get 92% 5&4 star reviews ("A" rating on Fakespot). BUT...on Lowes.com. these Irwins get 73% 5&4 star reviews, with a LOT of 1-star reviews (17%), most of which complain about durability and function. For less than half the price, I'm going to try the Ticonn.

CCC indicates this price isn't nearly the discount that the current page indicates. Looks like it is typically, and historically, been right around $20. Can anyone confirm this is normally the $38 that Amazon says it is?

Might still be worth $20, I'm just not sure it's "on sale".

Are they essentially the same functions just different brands?

I've had the Irwin version for years and I would highly recommend them. They consistently strip cleanly on the first try. The knock-offs seem to have trouble holding the proper tension over time. So while they might work fine right out of the box chances are they'll eventually fail. IMO skip the knock-off and buy the Irwin (or Klein).

It is usually around $25, never at the retail price of $38. It used to get down around $18 at times but those days may be over. $22 is a good price given recent history.

These are nice, but most appropriate when you are working a ton of wire without space constraints. My low voltage guys have them and some of their jobs are hundreds of terminations during construction. That's where they really pay off.

This stripper is smaller and will do better if you are replacing outlets and switches. Very clean cuts. Half the price, too. IRWIN VISE-GRIP Wire Stripping Tool / Wire Cutter, 7-Inch (2078317) , Blue https://a.co/d/2UyQcIv

I have this and have been using it to rewire a bunch of outlets around my house. It strips the wire the way I want it 90% of the time. The other 10% it stretches out the insulation.

It was $20 from 2014 to 2019 but went up to $22 from 2020 to 2022. Now it's $26. Here is the historical pricing data [ibb.co]. Looks like it has a +- range of $5 when it establishes a baseline.
