I also set mine up last week and managed to get the Echelon proprietary apps off the tablet using some of the information posted here [xda-developers.com]. Note that this is not a simple, quick or necessarily straightforward process, but the end result should be a tablet that still connects to the bike and can be configured with 3rd party apps.

I had no intention of using the Echelon app simply because 99% of it's functionality is tailored toward having a subscription. As soon as I saw the freestyle window as a full screen ad with a tiny stats bar at the bottom, I knew that app was coming off. There's supposed to be a way to re-load the Echelon app if you want to keep using it but I haven't figured that out yet.

I paid for the qdomyos-zwift app off the Amazon appstore and installed that on the tablet instead. It has a relatively basic interface but displays all the important info I need (cadence, speed, resistance level, etc.). It's also able to interact with the Peleton app if desired, which I hear good things about. For now, I have Plex & YouTube Vanced loaded on the tablet and run that with the qdomyos-zwift app in the background or in split screen.

EDIT: I was finally able to re-load the Echelon app after following step 5 on post 532 [xda-developers.com]. Installing the app this way allows you to do everything the stock Echelon app would (including update the bike itself) but will not firmware update the tablet and lock it back down in the process.
if you are interested in buying this or you've already bought it, check this thread out

it shows you how to hack the echelon tablet to install the apps you like, and also to split the screen to display qdomyos-zwift and peleton app together, so you can enjoy the peleton app with a more reasonable monthly fee
YES! Right on time! I was running out of places to hang all my black Friday clothes.

Got mine last Thursday and I am really enjoying it. Well built, super quiet, and with the help of some wonderful users on this site I got YouTube running on the tablet so I can just use instructor videos off that instead of paying a monthly fee. Seems like a good deal if you're just starting out.

Walmart cancelled my order saying it was OOS. Now suddenly it's in stock and at same price. I really hate Walmart.

I thought Walmart dropped it to $285 then noticed that was a 3rd party seller, but if you click compare all sellers Walmart still has it for $297. I grabbed one from Walmart direct, thanks! I'll have to figure out that Youtube tablet setup too.

Any app that allows you to ride using Google Earth/Street View type of stuff? I remember seeing something like that a few years ago.

but Echelon has tons of on-demand videos you can view for free, yes? that's what I use with mine after subscription ended. I don't care anything about live competition or work outs.

499 is a great price for EX-4s+, it was 699.99 at my Costco last week.
I ordered Schwinn Fitness IC4 from target for 450 plus tax.
Which is better value for money between Schwinn Fitness IC4 from Costco for 499.99 and Schwinn Fitness IC4 from target for 450?
Thanks!

I just set this up for my wife and the bike itself seems really solid and pretty high quality. The crap ads that are displayed in the freestyle mode and the tiny display of stats on the bottom has me wanting to jailbreak this thing. I took a quick look at the link in your post and that is pretty involved. Do you need to follow that whole process to get the qdomyos-zwift app installed?
