I also set mine up last week and managed to get the Echelon proprietary apps off the tablet using some of the information posted here [xda-developers.com]. Note that this is not a simple, quick or necessarily straightforward process, but the end result should be a tablet that still connects to the bike and can be configured with 3rd party apps.

I had no intention of using the Echelon app simply because 99% of it's functionality is tailored toward having a subscription. As soon as I saw the freestyle window as a full screen ad with a tiny stats bar at the bottom, I knew that app was coming off. There's supposed to be a way to re-load the Echelon app if you want to keep using it but I haven't figured that out yet.

I paid for the qdomyos-zwift app off the Amazon appstore and installed that on the tablet instead. It has a relatively basic interface but displays all the important info I need (cadence, speed, resistance level, etc.). It's also able to interact with the Peleton app if desired, which I hear good things about. For now, I have Plex & YouTube Vanced loaded on the tablet and run that with the qdomyos-zwift app in the background or in split screen.

EDIT: I was finally able to re-load the Echelon app after following step 5 on post 532 [xda-developers.com]. Installing the app this way allows you to do everything the stock Echelon app would (including update the bike itself) but will not firmware update the tablet and lock it back down in the process.
if you are interested in buying this or you've already bought it, check this thread out
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...m.4023915/

it shows you how to hack the echelon tablet to install the apps you like, and also to split the screen to display qdomyos-zwift and peleton app together, so you can enjoy the peleton app with a more reasonable monthly fee
YES! Right on time! I was running out of places to hang all my black Friday clothes.

I've seen other comments but for 300 is this as good as it gets? Or has there been better deals?
Yes. There was a better deal a couple months ago, bowflex C7 for 280.

Got mine today and put it together in about 30 minutes. Seems really solid and is whisper quiet. My plan was to side load q-zwift onto the included tablet but it will not allow me to get into the home menu by tapping the bottom right corner 5 times. Even did a factory reset with the same results. For now I have a fire tablet running q-zwift and my phone running Zwift. Hopefully I will get the tablet side loaded soon. Other than that I really like the bike so far.

Were you in the echelon settings screen when tapping bottom right? It only worked for me there, trying on any other screen (including the login screen) wouldn't do anything for me.

I did not see a settings screen, but I was able to finally get in. I had to actually click login and once on that screen I was able to access home by tapping on the bottom right. I now have q-zwift installed on the tablet. I will use my phone or computer for Zwift.

Any free or paid alternatives to Peloton subscription?

I am considering Apple Fitness+ as part of Apple One bundle and not sure if I should get separate subscription for Peloton?

I hate tiny ads. They disappear if go offline means the greed corporations are collecting your information for free. Is there any native app running on the non-mod tablet that can be used with this machine without subscription.

Did you try reading the thread? One of the featured comments talks about an alternative

Just picked up the EX-4s at Costco for $499 today.

Worth returning and getting this one instead for the $200 difference?

Not trying to be rude, but only you can determine that.

For me, I would return and put the $200 towards something else for my home gym.

Fair point. I just have no idea what the differences are and can't find any good comps online.

I don't know bikes really, so tech specs mean nothing to me..

The Costco one gives you a 1 year membership, the Walmart one give you a 1 month membership. The savings might make up the difference.
