Note, in order to get $10 in Macy's cash you must spend $50 so this comes up a penny short. Just buy something cheap like Play-Doh for $1.05.

This is the same strop Bob Kramer uses in his sharpening tutorial video. He also did a video with Anthony Bourdain, finishing a hand-made knife with a strop polish.

...$50 for a piece of leather glued to a block of wood? LMAO

These are $20 or far less on Amazon, and those include stropping compound.

HARD pass.

I concur. I glued one piece of leather to a piece of MDF. Another to a laminate board. Both smooth side down.

I use mine for sharpening chisels and plane irons for woodworking. But I suspect it works the same for kitchen knives.

Below are a few examples. Both brands are brand names I recognize. None are random 8 character merchants from Amazon.
$9 Leather + compound [amazon.com]
$20 Leather on block + compound [amazon.com]
$20 Leather on block with handle + compound [amazon.com]

Lastly, I don't think a strop needs to be anything special. I've seen it recommended to find an old couch that's been put out for the trash. Cut leather off of it to make a strop instead of spending money.

I agree you pay extra for the Zwilling & Kramer name. However, reviews say Kramer's strop has very good quality, durable and smooth leather that doesn't require compound. Do these Amazon strops require it?

Compound are optional on all leather strops, these are not special.

Denim or newspaper also works.
