Thanks op, in for 1 and cancelled the 4th Gen 11" I just bought from the Costco sale SD post a few hrs earlier. I'm good with the M1 chip and the cost save!
So tempted to just order this for myself, now while it's in stock! Instead of letting my boyfriend struggle to figure out how to buy me an (unknown model) iPad for Christmas.
Boyfriend upgrade incoming ! Buy now return later 🤣 Seriously do it and return this one if he gets it right . Stores still OOS from last deal this might be the last drop at this price !
After the last deal I got to thinking pretty heavily about this deal…
Even the smallest version (128gb) still needs a keyboard for power users…
That means at least another $150 for kb. That's at least $700+ Total with tax. That's not far from the price of the macbook air. Those with the M1 chips I believe can even run iPadOS apps. I'm starting to think that maybe these iPads aren't worth it…

TLDR: don't hesitate to get the 2021 version instead of the 2022. Money saved can be used for the pen or case or a nice dinner with the family.
Target messed up when I order these last time.
They were suppose to have two, only had one, but the young manager on duty priced matched the 2022 version for me.
I can tell you that for the 90% of us who use these, even artist, the 2022 M2 version isn't effectively a better experience. Meaning; I doubt 90% of could tell the difference between 2021 & 2022 versions.

Personally I would never spend this much for myself on a tablet, would much rather have a laptop for a similar price. I ordered the S7+ the other day from Wal Mart for $400 and it's legit my first tablet ever, but all I'd use it for is streaming NBA/ESPN and simple stuff like that, that I'd do on my phone otherwise.
With that said, I'm taking advantage of this deal and purchasing for my mum. I think that for older folks who don't know how to use a laptop/computer, an iPad/tablet is a no brainer. She uses an iPhone already so there's no learning curve, etc. Just a bigger screen basically. All she'd use it for is general use stuff like reading, music, etc.
For any sort of serious editing and stuff like that, I would stick with the laptop. But then again, many people would say if you're going to get an air for tasks like that... why not just spend a bit more and get a MPB? There's always going to be something in the next price range

I was sort-of sad to have missed the last one, but now I'm wondering whether this is worth it over an S7+ or S8+…

Two completely different use-cases.
