If you can afford it, you should go for the Duet 3 or Duet 5. They are way more functional as computers, both can be gotten around $260 open box.

Duet is getting updates until June of 2028. But as an owner of a Duet I do find it to rather slow.

This old duet is fine if you are doing mostly light consumption or as a 2nd/3rd device. The Duet 5 will be better if you are using it often or more in a primary role.

The whole single port situation on Chromebook tablets that could obviously support 3+ just irks me. Not enough RAM for me.

Otherwise, looks ok I guess. MediaTek P60T appears identical to MediaTek MT8183 [notebookcheck.net], just a tablet-oriented version. They will phase it out "soon".

I'm also hearing great things about Best Buy refurbs. Good prices for barely touched products.

Bought this for $200 when I it first came out. I find it worth this price for these reasons:

1. Updates for a long time
2. Google Play Store
3. It's a good Chrome/Android tablet

There are almost never any great Android tablets, so I liked this because it's a Chromebook tablet (yes, they ARE different things).

An iPad still blows all of these away, but at what cost?

Are chromebooks Android tablets with a keyboard?

No. If you want to run mostly Android apps, a proper Android tablet is better. Most apps will work ok but there are some quirks and compatibility issues when running from a Chromebook.

Not exactly, although many of the functionality overlaps. One of the biggest differences I've seen is that companies who make Android Tablets like to use their own company's personalized "skin" overtop of Android, which gives it a unique look and feel when using it - but also requires THAT company to provide updates to the device. Often times, they simply DON'T update the device. In a short time, the Anrdoid Tablet's software becomes outdated.

Chromebooks (as far as I know) ALL use the Chrome OS with no additional "skin" or operation system. Chromebooks, as long as it is during the devices "life" (which is usually stated!) will get all of the updates the rest of them do.

PLUS, Chrome OS looks, behaves, and responds very much like Windows - something people are used to. Android is more like a mobile device / cell phone. They are simply less user friendly in terms of being productive, people generally don't know all of the intricacies of using them, their "skins" make them all different (which leads to more confusion), and with all of the different updates out there they are all different as well.

I hope that helps a bit. I MUCH MUCH prefer Chrome OS to Android on a tablet, especially one that is 10"+ and can be a suitable as a laptop as well.

Edit: To add - SOME android apps don't translate perfectly to a Chromebook, that is true.

It does (and rep'd). I was thinking about getting a chromebook since I have an Android phone. I was hoping to get the pop-up notifications that I get on my phone where I can look at a snippet of the message without opening the app to do so. Would you happen to know if that is possible with a chromebook?

For the price this is a good device. Standard Chrome runs almost flawlessly, something you cannot get on another tablet. Outside of Chrome however it is hit or miss. Sometimes it runs buttery smooth and all apps are snappy, other times there's a delay in even unlocking the device. I have no idea what causes the lags, and it can only handle 2 apps at a time.

As a media consumption device and basic web browsing, it's great. Good screen, keyboard and kickstand, and I actually like ChromeOS.

Absolutely you can! I do it on my Chromebook. It's a nice feature.

Pluses for this tablet is screen is great, audio is very good. As long as you run everything in the web is ok. 4GB of ram is limiting even on Chrome OS. Running nothing after the OS loads give you 1.6 GB free. Running Android apps increases the RAM usage, to the point where you don't want to run them and try to use only websites or web apps as a new window. I only run youtube as a android app, i love using the swipe up down fullscreen gestures which aren't available on the web version.

It isn't really useful for anything than web browsing or light apps. Games run ok too but nothing great. Android apps really aren't optimized for tablets like this.

I like the form factor but there are a lot of limitations with the RAM and OS. Buying the pen is nice but you are limited again. One note is no longer available as a Android App. Office is no longer available on Chrome os as an Android App. I hate using the MS Office on the Web.

I kinda think you are better off with the lenovo duet 3 8gb available from Lenovo (300$) if you can deal with Chrome OS limitations. Or find a Surface Go 2 m3 (320$ from CDW refirb) if you need to use office apps in a 10 inch device. Both are going to run around 300$ and are going to be better long term.
