Now Comgrow has the filament dryer for $39.

If you live in an area with high humidity, your 3D printer filament may absorb moisture and not print properly anymore. For example, if you see a lot of stringing that doesn't go away even when you tune the print parameters, then the filament may be moist.
Instead of throwing away the spools, you can dry two of them at a time in this filament dryer so that they dry properly again.

Works with PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU and other types of filament, both 1.75mm as well as 2.85mm diameter is supported

On the product page, it says something about "max temp dependent on room temp". I wonder if sticking some insulation on the outside of this (maybe the type of insulation used for exterior water pipes, some rigid foam board cut to fit, etc) would help this box hold its temperature better...

Thanks, got one. I was looking for one and this seems like a good deal for a double spool one.

Reading the reviews on Amazon I see some people saying that the lid needs to be open when drying since the box has no venting. Seems like a bad design.

Why not turn your bed temp up to like 60c and then put a lid/cover/box over the spool? Isn't that basically the same idea as this or using a food dehydrator from the second hand store?

That makes no sense though. The point is to remove moisture so why would anyone choose to run the machine with the lid open (or venting it) and let humidity/moisture back into the filament?

I've had several dry boxes and other than the filament output holes in the lid (so you can print straight from the dryer box), the boxes are purposely sealed to keep outside humidity from infiltrating the enclosure.

Hmm my air fryer has a dehydration mode and would hold a spool easily...

Ithis kind of box is more for storage and use it and keep it dry. To dry u filame you should use a dehydration machine .

It makes no sense because it's a crappy design. When you dry anything the moisture needs to go somewhere.

My point was the opposite. Same as with other dry boxes, this box isn't air tight so theres no need for it to be vented.
