After you've completed the required days, the promos will be moved from the In Progress column to the Earned column. That's when it's safe for you to cancel your Fi service. In your Fi account, click on Account-->Your Plan. Scroll down until you see Leave Fi, click on it. It will give you options on what to do (cancel, pause, port out etc). Since the 1st bill usually started 2 days after your service was activated, the 61st day should be 2 or more days before the 3rd billing period starts. Cancel promptly on the 61st day and you won't be charged the 3rd bill.

you don't have to since even iphone 8 or SE 2nd gen @$150 will suffice ($600-200-250-150). If you want Pro then iphone 11 is enough since it fetches $330 as trade in ($900-300-250-330).

Nice deal, but no one is trading in a 13 Pro Max for a free Pixel 7 lol

For my S22 deal, I always had to click on the promo listing in Fi savings to find the details for the steps.
I have done four S22 deals from May until now. There's no clickable promo listing in Fi Savings for S22 deals on Fi web site. Clicking Fi Savings-->In progress and the sole promo and its check items are listed.

I think so. Deleting the eSIM probably will deactivate your Fi service.
I don't think that it deactivates the service but I think it stops the 60 day counter. I activated a few days ago. Waited a day for the checkmarks to show up and deleted the eSIM in order to put my other SIM in thinking it will be fine. Sure enough, it still shows 60 days.

Just went ahead and downloaded a new eSIM and reactivated. I will update in a day or two if that fixed the counter.

This was not an issue on the two previous deals I did with a physical SIM. I could just take the physical SIM out the same day and all was well.

It is possible the counter is just taking a few days to catch up but I didn't want to risk waiting a few more days to find out.

1. Did the phone want to be online (either with WiFi or Data) when you deleted the eSIM? How does Fi know that the eSIM was deleted?
2. If deleting the eSIM is considered a pause in service, that's enough to void your promo. The terms of the promo have this clause "Remain active and in good standing for 60 consecutive days. Pausing, changing, or suspending the account will void the promotion".

I believe there were some who were successful with physical sim as well. Usually the sim itself doesn't matter, they are not active and in the account the only thing that is logged is the serial of the phone (which is linked to IMEI). Once the phone is activated then it pairs the phone number with the sim. At least this is the case with TMobile, which Google Fi is using. Often sims are handed out like business cards and just dropped in with the phones unlogged. New phones usually will come with an unactivated sim, but you can use any sim to activate the phone. It seems for Fi promos they don't want this line being used on any other phone, which means you can't put the Fi sim in another phone or move the esim. If there is no physical sim in a phone it will automatically request to activate on esim. This is the case with phones with both esim and physical sim slot.

So, which sim you choose really only matters if you plan to use a 2nd sim and if you are restricted to using an esim or physical sim with your 2nd provider. It seems like the physical sim would be recognized by the promo quicker since it's like past promos. And it seems like there was a delay with the esim activation because they had only checked activation of the physical sim IMEI and had to rewrite then algorithm to also check activation of the 2nd IMEI which is used by the esim. Going forward there may no longer be a delay with esim activation if they are routinely checking both.

Lastly new flagship phones are starting to ship with no physical sims, and it's not specific to Fi or pixels, or Fi attempts to make their promos more difficult. The iphone14 are activated only with esims now. There is even no physical sim slot. So any that are sold activated in a store will have the line transferred to the esim on the spot, which have complicated holiday gift sales. Seems only way around it is to have the phones shipped.
Thank you so much. That is an excellent post.
I myself was having a hard time figuring out how Fi would track each individual SIM number and phone IMEI pairing while they are sold. That would be very complex code.

I recall when Fi send me an offer to port up to 4 lines for unlimited plan for free from Oct to Dec 2022. I requested Sims for 4 lines but ultimately ended up activating only 1. So I still have 3 SIMs lying around. When I got the 4 Sims, I had called customer service and they told me I could activate my line with any of the 4 Sims they shipped. As per the CSR, the Sims are identical before activation. The plan information is taken from the email address/Fi account and not from the physical SIM itself. This is in contrast to my Verizon Sims which were preprogrammed with the plan info and didn't really care about which email you use.

I'm going to go old school on this deal and activate both the phones on physical Sims that I have and see what happens. Appreciate your inputs. I've just been a little bit wary of Fi customer service since I've had bad experiences in the past. The CSR make lofty claims which are usually untenable and it's a pain to hold them accountable later on.

1. Unfortunately, I already had it hooked up to WiFi when I deleted it so I am not sure if any sort of network was required. I deleted it by doing a factory reset.

2. Agreed, however there were no indications of the account being in any sort of pause or change state during that time. The only indication was the counter stuck at 60 days. It seems absurd to pause the service if deleting the SIM but who knows.

I will keep an eye on it and update as soon as I see something. I made a call, sent a text and used some data to show activity.

Btw, on the other deals with physical SIMs I even factory restored the phones a few times which required an activation in the FI app every restore ending with multiple activations. That still did not cause any issues.

I'm confused. The Cricket deal I'm seeing on their website says you get an iPhone 11 for $50 if you sign up for 3 months of service at $60/mth. So that's at least $230 plus tax (on the nonpromotional price i assume).
Unless I missed something.... maybe in store it was a different deal, but only "condition" to get the $50 iPhone 11 was to sign up for at least one month of the $60/month plan, they said after that first month you can change to any plan. so my understanding was that I could cancel my service after the first month? uh oh.. Maybe I should read the terms and conditions, but I don't see why not because technically it's a "post paid", no contract plan... They also "waived" the BS $25 activation fee. Regardless, I guess even if I screwed up and I need another 2 months of service, they have a $30 plan, so it'll be another $60 on top of my $148 = $208 total. But I think I should be fine without those extra 2 months.

I don't know why a reactivation of the physical Fi SIM was needed after each reset. A reset only clears everything on the phone, not on the SIM. Unless when the Fi app was re-installed and run after a reset, it couldn't find the activation history of the SIM (previously stored in the app) and wanted to activate the SIM, thinking the SIM was never activated.

I always uninstalled the Fi app after activating the SIM. I use the web site to access my Fi accounts. I'll bet that if you uninstall the Fi app, you can reset the phone as often as you want and never have to re-activate the physical Fi SIM.

Yea, I meant I had to reactivate through the app. For the previous deals I wasn't sure of the amount of time needed to keep the connection active so I would keep it for a few days. In that time multiple updates might be needed so I would factory reset after each major one to keep things clean.
I would also delete the app as soon as different SIM is inserted.

On a good note I just checked the counter and it went down to 57 days. Not sure if it was some sort of glitch so it remains unconfirmed if the eSIM removal caused it or not. I don't want to risk doing it again to find out 🙂

Did you do the deal at local store or online? Terms/deals in the stores might be different from online offerings.

Activated via eSIM yesterday. Able to see the check marks for both the $200 port in promo and $250 trade in promo (less than 24 hours later).

Anyone know if I use another carrier's (T-Mobile) physical SIM card for strictly data will disqualify me out of the Fi promos?

Thanks.

That explains it and yes if they charged for the first month only that's how much it will be. Online requires payment for 3 months upfront at checkout.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure that YMMV depending on the store. In the case of the Metro iPhone 11 deal you need to go to a corporate store. Doesn't seem like there's an equivalent with Cricket. I'll try calling around.

Do you also see the days counting down? I activated via eSim 3 days ago and see the check marks for the promos and also see the days counting down. I have another phone due to arrive tomorrow and will activate via eSim as well (unless they happen to send a physical Sim which seems very unlikely) After that I am not certain what to do. I would like to swap in the physical Sims from my current carrier and make them our daily use phones (text, voice and data) but don't want to screw anything up. I was intending to just leave the Fi eSim active but make the physical Sims primary for everything. I am also considering just waiting the 2 months before doing anything more and then changing over to the new Pixels once I am certain I have fulfilled all of the promo terms, but old phone is getting sluggish. A lot of what I've read has said there is no issue with using another carrier but not 100% confident on that.
